I'm glad I found this pail. I can attach it under my kitchen sink so it's out of sight and large enough for a couple days' scraps. Keeps the odor down and no flying pests!

              Comments about Odor-Free Compost Pail:

I really am pleased with the product as it does not have an odor when used with the filters and bags. Since the bags are used from a recycled material the heavier the contents the higher the event of the bag riping or breaking. Over all I am very pleased with this product.

              Comments about Odor-Free Compost Pail:

I am on my third "Odor Free Compost Pail." I think I bought the first one when Gardener's Supply first started carrying them. The odor control is excellent. I love being able to hang it on a cabinet door, as illustrated, so that it does not take counter space. The capacity is just about right. Some people complain that it is difficult to open and to close securely, but I have developed an automatic way of doing it with one hand that is easy and efficient, thumb on the extended tab and fingers on the filter. Over the years I have found that the best way to clean it between uses is to rinse it out and put it in the sun. The (Colorado) UV does a much better job of eliminating any odor from the inside of the bucket than any combination of detergent and bleach. The only problem with the design is that the notches used for hanging it eventually crack because they are plastic. That is why I am on my third one (in approximately 15-20 years). Besides that structural problem I hate paying the shipping charges when I order the carbon filter refills.

                  Comments about Odor-Free Compost Pail:

I owned a composter just like this one for many years and it had adequate aeration in the lid with removable charcoal liners to replace from time to time. I ordered a new one and they had changed the design on the lid to flowers, with very little space for aeration so now I am getting mold and mildew in my composter. I wish they had kept the original design in the lid. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

                      Comments about Odor-Free Compost Pail:

I am about to order my third one of these. The first one finally got to the point where I could not get rid of the odor in it, even with bleach or a good dose of UV rays from the sun. Perhaps it became porous after so many years of use. But unlike other customers I found that the lid worked well over many years closing well and keeping the odor in and the flies out and the handle did its job. I used the notches to mount it on a cabinet door and it eventually cracked at the notches, but not until it was quite old. We repaired it with glue. My second identical one had all the "pros" of the first but finally cracked badly at the notches. That happened before it developed any odor problem. By now I know that a good rinse of the bucket after dumping and a day in the Colorado sun is the best and easiest way to eliminate odors (although, as I said, that eventually stopped working with the first one). I am about to order my third one because I still think this is the best of its type and it hangs well on the inside of my under sink cabinet door. The filters last for a long time, effectively containing any smell. We did develop a technique for opening and closing the lid by bracing against the bucket for leverage. It is now spontaneous and effectively opens and closed the top with no problems. I did ask customer service if they would replace the old, old one that is no longer odor-free but they would not because of its age.
