What temperature do my seeds require to sprout and grow?

Ideally, indoor seeds like an average of 70 degrees to sprout. The warmer the indoor temperature, the quicker they will grow. Check your indoor temperature. If growing in a basement, where it's cooler, the seeds will take longer to germinate so you may have to use a space heater or a heat mat.

Do I need a grow light to start seeds indoors?

If you have a southern exposure window with full sun all day, it's possible to start your seeds without additional light sources. However, once seeds sprout, they do best with 15 hours of full-spectrum sunlight. If you start to see your seeds grow spindly and leggy, it's best to provide supplemental lightening for the healthiest outcome.

How many seeds should I plant per cell in a seed starting tray?

Your seed packet should instruct you on how many seeds to plant per cell or pot. Unless the packet says otherwise, a couple or few seeds per cell or pot allows you to snip the weaker plants and allow the stronger to survive.

When should I move my seedlings/starts outside?

You'll want to wait until temperatures are consistently above 50℉(10℃) to begin hardening them off. Ideally, you'll wait until after the last frost before planting in your garden. Use a cold frame or garden fabric to provide additional temperature protection at night.
