At Gardener's Supply, we believe that gardening can bring about positive change in people's lives, in our communities, and in the environment. We donate 8% of our company profits to programs and organizations that are using gardening to improve the world. It's a commitment we made on our first day of business back in 1983.
We focus on nonprofit organizations that are working on gardening, sustainable agriculture, the environment, and hunger-related causes. Today, our donations are focused primarily on gardening as a way to relieve hunger.
We underwrite programs that contribute positively to our planet and its people. In 2018 we supported a variety of efforts dedicated to making the world a better place, including:
KidsGardening.org creates opportunities for kids to learn and grow through gardening, engaging their natural curiosity and wonder.
Established in 1982, the organization has been working to realize a goal of happier, healthier kids learning in the garden and connecting to nature. In support of its mission, KidsGardening.org connects educators and families by providing garden grants and curricula, and cultivates a community of practice.
The AGCA builds community by increasing and enhancing community gardening and greening in both urban and rural areas across the United States and Canada.
GEF is a national nonprofit organization committed to creating a sustainable future through education. It aims to identify key factors and impediments influencing sustainability education, evaluate existing approaches, and develop effective educational materials and programs to promote behavior change towards sustainable practices. GEF offers free programs that provide curricula and hands-on activities to inspire K-12 students and teachers to think holistically about global sustainability concerns and solutions.
Founded as Kitchen Gardeners International, SeedMoney offers financial and technical support to a wide variety of public food garden projects. These include community gardens, school gardens, food bank gardens, homeless shelter gardens, and senior gardens.
AmpleHarvest.org is a nationwide resource working on eliminating food waste, with a goal of reduced hunger and malnutrition in tandem with an improved environment. The organization connects the 42 million Americans who grow food in home/community gardens with 8,444 registered local food pantries spread across all 50 states.
