We Are a Company of Gardeners
Rooted in Vermont and 100 percent employee-owned
"Gardener's Supply is in business
to spread the joys and rewards of gardening,
because gardening nourishes the body,
elevates the spirit, builds community, and
makes the world a better place."
Mission statement, 1990
Gardener's Supply was founded in 1983 by a handful of enthusiastic Vermont gardeners. Today, we serve millions of gardeners nationwide, offering everything from seed-starting supplies, and garden furniture to flower supports and garden carts. Though our company has grown, we remain passionately committed to providing garden-tested, earth-friendly products that will help our customers have more fun and success in their gardens.
Gardener's Supply is proud to be employee-owned. We are gardeners ourselves and have earned our customers' trust by providing high-quality products, expert information, and friendly, personalized service.
We understand the products we sell because we use them in our own gardens. Regular product training sessions and a gardening certification program for our staff help us provide the best service and support in the business.
Innovative Gardening Solutions
Gardener's Supply provides garden-tested solutions for most every gardening challenge. We work with customers, market gardeners, universities, manufacturers, and suppliers throughout the world to design and introduce innovative gardening products, such as self-watering planters, flower and vegetable supports, composters, rain barrels, grow lights, professional growing mediums, organic fertilizers, and much more.
We have our own research and development team and maintain a half-acre test garden. We also have a manufacturing facility in Vermont, where we produce garden carts, raised beds, grow lights, and many of the other exclusive products we offer.
A Partner in Your Gardening Success
Gardener's Supply is in business to help you experience the joys of fresh, healthy food, colorful, fragrant flowers and a yard and garden growing in harmony with nature. If you need help identifying a pest or choosing the right support for your perennials, we are always happy to help. We'll make sure that you get the right product and all the information you need to use it most effectively.
The Learn and Share pages on our web site are packed with tips and techniques that we've gleaned from years of experience serving gardeners from Maine to Arizona. We also encourage you to check out our blog, where we post news, ideas and musings about gardening. If you have specific gardening questions, you can ask our team of gardening experts.
Improving the World Through Gardening
Gardener's Supply actively promotes gardening as an important way for people to make the world a better place. We donate 8 percent of our pre-tax profits to support programs and organizations that are using gardening to improve the quality of people's lives and the health of our environment.
Gardener's Supply also provides gifts to a number of nonprofit organizations working on gardening, sustainable agriculture, the environment and hunger-related causes. Recipients include the American Community Gardening Association and the Green Education Foundation.
In Vermont, our company's local donations program helps support more than 50 community organizations. We also founded, and continue to be a lead sponsor for the Intervale Center, which oversees 350 acres of farmland and a wide range of urban farming initiatives in Burlington, VT.
We are mindful about our company's environmental responsibility, and are pursuing a number of environmental initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint. To learn more, read Our Commitment to the Environment.
