Phosphorescent products absorb sunlight by day and glows by night, adding a touch of magic and mystery to your landscape. To maximize the intensity and duration of the glow, here are a few factors to keep in mind.
The phosphorescent particles in this product absorb energy from any source of bright light. The more intense the light (direct sunlight is best), the more energy is absorbed. This stored energy is then released gradually, starting as soon as the particles are no longer absorbing light. This means that if the morning is sunny and the afternoon is dark and gray, it’s possible that the stored light may be exhausted by the time evening comes.
With 6 to 8 hours of direct exposure to bright sunlight, you can see a glow lasting 2 to 4 hours. Therefore, to get the best glow at night, place the product in a location where it will receive as much direct light in the afternoon as possible.
Phosphorescence is a soft glow, and will not outshine bright
lights in the area. When the ambient
light levels from other sources — such as street lights, porch lights,
house lights from windows, garden
lights, etc. — are high, it can be hard
to notice a phosphorescent glow.
To give your phosphorescent
item a quick "pick me up" when it
is dark outside, bring it inside and
place it under a lamp, or even just shine a flashlight on it! This small burst of energy will intensify the
glow for a short time.
If you are having trouble seeing the glow, put the product in a sunny spot for an hour, then bring it inside to a completely dark room or closet to test. If it is glowing, then you might want to adjust the placement of the item so you'll get a better nighttime glow.
