One of the hardiest cover crops, winter rye is sown in late summer or early fall. It sprouts and continues to grow much later than other cover crops, and starts growing again in early spring. The plants' vigorous growth and deep roots not only provide abundant organic matter, they also prevent erosion during winter and spring storms. May be combined with Field Peas/Oats/Vetch Mix. Seeding rate: 3-4 lbs./1000 square feet. Resistant to late blight. Cut or mow in spring prior to plants producing seed heads to prevent unwanted reseeding.
Gardener's Supply is offering these seeds through our partnership with High Mowing Organic Seeds, a small Vermont company that produces and develops the best quality, 100% organic seeds. Varieties have been selected for their exceptional performance. When you buy organic seed, you have the assurance that the seed was grown without synthetic chemicals and you are supporting farms and companies that are committed to organic agriculture.
