Comments about : Self-Watering TubTrug Planter:
Purchased the light green tub in the seven gallon size for husband's laundry. It's waaaayy better and lighter than his old, batteredt traditional laundry basket.

About Me Master Gardener
I have a couple of your regular drugs which I use all the time and thought this self-watering one would be a good alternative to your very expensive self-watering pots, which I dearly love but can't afford. Haven't set it up yet, but see no reason that it would not work really well.

I absolutely love these self-watering TubTrugs. I have 3 in different colors. The colors are true to what I saw on my monitor. They are easy to assemble. Because of the light-weight material and the handles, they are easy to transport even when completely filled. My plants are thriving. Highly recommended!
Perfect for planting herbs on my patio

This planter is perfect on my patio. I bought two but I want several more. I plan to plant my herbs in them so they are easily accessible right outside my back door.

Love these!!!

I love the color's of these tub trugs so much I bought one of each color in the 3 1/2 gallon size! I didn't buy the ones with a kit because they weren't out when I bought mine, but still use them for all sorts of things. The kit is a great idea for plant's living in them. And as the writer before me said, if you like a different color, you can move the kit to that one. They have so many colors to choose from.I bought 3 tropical hibiscus in three colors and put the red one in a red tub, orange one in the orange tub and pink one in the pink tub. They go with the blooms perfectly. I'll bring them in with the tubs for winter BTW the hibiscus are still in their pots inside the tubs. They are so sturdy I could haul 7 brick's at a time to where I was edging a flower bed. Now that's got to tell you how tough they are. They are useful weeding, carry mulch, move plants around and bring in produce from my veggie garden. I also bought a scoot that Gardeners Supply sells. The 3 1/2 gallon tub trug fits in the basket. I liked that so well for me that I bought one for my mom, sister and one of my daughters. Thanks Gardeners Supply! You have so many things in your catalog that I can't find locally. I've been buying from you for many many years!

super convenient kit
By Philly Sheila

I decided to put my tomatoes in planters on my patio this year, but didn't have quite enough planters. I chose to buy two of these because they are inexpensive compared to others, and I can put them to use as trugs next year when I will probably not need so many planters, and I can stack them when they're not in use. What you get is a kit comprised of a 7-gallon tubtrug and a large self-watering planter insert, so if you want a color of tubtrug that's not shown here, you can just buy the tubtrug and an insert, but this kit is less expensive than buying each separately. They are very cheerful and hold a good amount of potting soil. I'm pleased with them. The one drawback is that you need to drill a hole for drainage. This is very minor in the sense that it doesn't take much time and is very easy if you have the right kind of bit and a power drill, but there is no indication from Gardener's supply that you need to do this, or instruction about where to place the hole (= on the side of the planter below the level of the top of the reservoir). As it happens, I've run into this issue with self-watering planter kits before and figured it out when I saw there was no hole in the tubtrug, but if you're someone new to self watering planters, you might have an unpleasant surprise if you found your soil turned into soup in a heavy rain!
