This rain barrel is very functional and attractive.

This rain barrel is very functional and attractive. However, because of the smaller bottom, it is more likely to tip over in windy conditions, especially if it sits on an uneven base.

We love our new rain barrel. It is so nice looking - not the usual barrel type. Fits in with our landscaping really nice. Very easy to install and works great. Just love it!

Glad I bought this!

We bought this to replace an ugly barrel that I exposed when I pruned some dead branches off the pinon tree near the entrance to our home. It looks great, and from a distance you can't tell it's plastic and not terra cotta. It arrived slightly damaged but not enough so to bother to return it. It has been through one snow/rain storm and so far so good. I am confused by the placement of the overflow pipes--they are above the opening of the urn so I don't see the point in them. And that is where the damage was. In any case, these were easy to install. They even supplied plumbers tape! and the hose connections are standard so you can connect to standard household hose fittings. We added a finer mesh screen on top of the supplied screening over the opening of the urn. And I used a shop vac to clean out all the plastic shavings that the manufacturer left inside the barrel. My next step is to purchase something to attach to the end of the short hose they provide that will release and spread a large rush of water to avoid an overflow -- the monsoons will happen here in July (I hope) so I have some time to figure that out.

I have an attic mounted a/c condenser/air handler whose drip pans corroded away. Water drained through the ceiling of one of my bed rooms. With 95 degree temps, I couldn't turn off the air, so I bought the Santa Fe Barrel to catch the water which was dripping at 12 gallons a day. This will buy me time until a contractor will work in the attic. Gardeners' has barrels that look more like furniture but this ones wide opening works excellent.

Bought two of these 4 years ago when we built a home in a remote area. It came with instructions on how to use. The overflow spouts aren't cut to allow the owner to choose which one they want to use. The hose was shorter than I wanted so I bought a longer(6')hose. I have a little experience with plumbing so I used Teflon tape to wrap the threads on the barrel before attaching the hose. Design: I like the simple lines and visitors don't recognize they are rain barrels. Stability: it is extremely windy here and they will blow over when empty, however they are rarely empty. Once filled they are unmovable. Use: Science tells us that water flows DOWN so it makes sense that the outflow is at the bottom of the barrel and the hose end must be lower than the barrel. I haven't found an overflow hose that fits and isn't ugly but I keep it hidden in the back of the barrel. They provide plenty of water for me to water all my houseplants and my outdoor plants that rain can't reach.

Too light weight and poor shut-off valve.

2

The barrel is too lightweight so some weighting has to be put inside at the bottom of the barrel. The screen over the top causes a splattering of the water and will most likely have to be removed. The shut-off valve does NOT screw into the barrel; rather it is glued and fit into the plastic. Thus, it can come out rather easily. I don't recommend this product.
