Rootrainer seed starters have grooved cells that promote downward root growth and discourage spiraling, yielding deep-rooted seedlings that transplant easily and adapt quickly to the garden. Cells are 1-1⁄2" square at the top, and they hinge so you can monitor root growth and remove plants without disturbing roots. Made from plastic; may be reused. The Deep Rootrainer has 32 cells with a holding frame; no waterproof tray or cover.

have used for many years
By the happy gardener
I have used these for over a decade, and have both the stronger ones that were initially made, and the cheaper ones, currently using a total of 10. I believe that the one's gardener's supply is selling may actually be the stronger ones. They are all completely worth it. The seedlings grow long strong roots, which preferentially grow along the outside of the pot. The transplants are far superior to other ways of starting, and take off easily once in the ground (no breaking up the root mass). Really deep roots. My root trainers have lasted many years, though there is some breaking of the sleeves. Even with some breakage, these are still re-usable; two halves can easily be fitted back together as they are held snuggly in the frame. Do expect some loss with time. I do not use the clear plastic trays as the roots would be too wet. I searched the internet and found (low) plastic trays that exactly fit the 4 tier green house shelves, so 3 root trainers fit neatly on each shelf!!!An awesome product and one of my favorite gardening things!
It works for sweet peas!

Great for starting seeds
Tall plants, deep roots
By The gardener

This product was easy to set up and fill with soil. I like seed starting early and the Deep Rootrainer has plenty of room for a strong root system and means I don't have to transplant the seedlings into bigger pots before going into the garden. It's also a breeze to get the plants out without having to push and pull and possibly damage the roots.
Great roots in a small space

About Me High-end Shopper
Transplanting bare root seedlings started in Gardeners' Supply Germination mix or peat pots. When full of potting mix, the rack only holds 7 or the 8 "books," but you can get them in and out. So far, I have not lost a seedling of vegetables or milkweed on the light tray. Looks like they will be great to go to the garden when it warms up. Have bought another case for summer plants.

Tucked away in a sunny place where the plants will be transplanted or on the patio I start the seeds.

I had bought something similar and was very pleased with them, but your product is better quality for about the same price.
Wish it was made out of heavyer plastic.
