The ingenious design of this rich red bird feeder allows your winged friends to dine in comfort. When a squirrel tries to get to the seed, however, its heavier weight triggers the spring-operated perch, closing access to the seed. You can even adjust the weight setting to discourage large birds, saving seeds for smaller songbirds. An easy-open, tamper-proof latch provides you easy access for filling, but foils hungry squirrels.

Possibly the most disappointing feeder ever
from Horsham, PA
Comments about : Red Squirrel-Proof Birdfeeder:
Fading to yellow after only a few months, the spring mechanism doesn't work, and the hanger never fit into its holes properly. Previously had an Audubon feeder of the same style and it's still going strong after more than ten years. Don't buy this one----buy the Audubon.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The Best Bird Feeder Ever
from Fairmont, WV
It really works. I no longer come home to an empty bidfeeder or even worse to find the feeder broken an on the ground. It has been great fun watching the squirrels trying to figure out how to get the birdseed out.

some squirrels can out-smart the design
from Springfield, PA
Some squirrels can lie sideways along the feed tray and bypass weighing down the spring operated closure device. It does fool some of the squirrels.

I have two of these feeders and they are the ONLY ones I have found that the squirrels cannot get into. I just love to watch them try. They are such smart critters but have not yet conquered this one, and I grant you my squirrels are smart. I don't particularly like the way they close, but if it keeps the squirrels away I can live with that.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I have two of these feeders. It is the only one I have found that is truly squirrel proof and I have some really smart squirrels.

Great for a wide range of birds up to medium size.
squirrels jump on it but can't get in it. the weight lock works well
from Bedford, NH
I have owned this feeder in the past and it kept the large birds from hogging the feed. I threw away the same feeder that was not doing this figuring it was rusted and not closing anymore, but the new one does the same thing. I had 5 house sparrows on it the other day and it still does not close on the front "heavy" setting. I am going to try mounting some sort of weight on the bar in the hopes that it will close when these heavy birds are feeding,

The bird feeder looked great and I want something squirrel proof, so I ordered it. Unfortunately, the one I received is defective so I am returning it and asking for a refund back to my credit card.

Hung in various locations. No birds will feed at it. Only 2 finches perched there.
