Birds need access to water in winter as much as in summer. In addition to drinking, birds use water for their frequent grooming, otherwise, their feathers can’t insulate against winter’s cold. This plug-in steel birdbath has an efficient, 75-watt heater with a thermostatic control that heats only when necessary and keeps water from freezing at temperatures as low as -10°F. Insulated plastic bowl holds 2 quarts.

The water froze solid when temperature dropped below 20 degrees. Maybe there is a bad heating element?
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Busy place in cold weather!
from Huntsville, AL
We clamped this heated bird bath on the rail outside of a window and are really enjoying watching the birds use it. It works well and is comparably priced to other heated bird baths on other sites.

Easily mounted to deck rail. Water does not freeze even at sub zero temperatures.
I will buy another one
Tired of filling up containers of water for winter birds? This is a great birdbath. Clamps on to deck so easily and is very stable. Cord is also a good length to plug in. My bluebirds are really enjoying it.
Terrific bird bath year round

If you live in a cold climate, your birds will be very happy! This bird bath is shallow and will need to be refilled often depending on how much wildlife visits it. Even in single digit temperatures it won't freeze over. The first one I bought from Gardener's Supply was an inch deep. It was better as I did not have to watch the water level and refill as frequently as this one.
It works...but no birds yet
from Setauket, NY
It heats well, but no birds have used it in the 3 weeks that I have had it. A squirrel comes daily for a drink. I put a feeder nearby, which attracts a lot of birds, but they have no interest in drinking or bathing!
I like it!
from Alexandria, VA
It's good - easy to install, looks nice and low-key on the deck rail, easy to fill. The not so good - it doesn't hold much water, so it must be filled often - sometimes twice a day, esp. in really cold weather when it goes up on steam! Overall, a good purchase. You can get a non-electric filler for warm weather.
Works like a charm!

Easy to mount

The bird bath looks Great and is easy to mount/install. I haven't used the heating element yet bc it's not that cold. Unfortunately none of my birds have used it yet... not sure why
