Support the declining monarch butterfly population by planting beneficial habitat that includes the milkweed plants their larvae need to survive. Simply toss these seed balls on prepared soil to grow clusters of several milkweed varieties. Each seed ball contains a packet's worth of seed, rolled with a proprietary mix of organics and clay to provide ideal growing conditions. Rain and watering dissolves the clay, allowing the seeds to sprout surrounded by a source of nutrients. The rustic burlap bag contains eight seed balls. Handmade in the USA by a company that employs persons with disabilities.

It's winter and we have lots of snow. I bought flower seeds. They adorn my living room in the neat little bags.

I hope these seed balls really work. One statement said that it took 2 years to germinate - I certainly hope not!

Easy milkweed for butterflies
By TN gardener
from Knoxville, Tennessee
Butterflies add a special touch to a flower garden, and what better way to attract than with milkweed -- the ultimate dinner menu for picky monarchs, but appreciated by other butterflies as well. As these seed balls are produced by disabled workers, the purchase also sends a vote of confidence to that community.

When I originally reviewed this product I was discouraged because they had not sprouted. After a month and a half, all balls have begun to grow! Guess it just takes a lot of patience. We will see how hardy the plants are, but I am hopeful.
