This shelter gives butterflies a place to stop and rest their wings, as well as a cozy place to stay during inclement weather. It's crafted from pine wood, with a hammered, solid copper roof that will age to a pleasing patina. Vertical slots invite butterflies to roost. A door in the back provides access so you can place twigs and bark inside, giving butterflies a place to alight. Holes in the bottom allow any moisture that gets inside to drain.

Time Will Tell
from Hampton NH
It is a very attractive unit. But I have a big concern: although the roof is very attractive copper, the wood is untreated pine. It is beyond me why the wood isn't red cedar or some other weather tolerant wood. I suspect that the body of the unit will rot after not too many seasons. My concern with treating the wood is that the aroma from the treatment may repel the butterflies. I was aware of the wood issue before I purchased the unit, but it was so attractive that I wanted to give it a try. Time will tell.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Copper top very nice looking. Wish it had a few rungs by the slots. Very expensive gift when stake and shipping added.

I think the house is very cute. Unfortunately the holes on the bottom were misdrilled. When I called customer service they offered no help and accused me of not understanding how the pole attaches. I will have to wait for a new one.
Merchant response: We appreciate you taking the time to contact us and send pictures of the holes in the bottom of your Hammered Copper Butterfly House. We're very sorry for the confusion about installing this house on a pole and we've reached out to you to resolve this issue directly. The holes drilled in the bottom of the house are drainage holes, not meant for screws. When installing the house on a post, please use small wood screws, spaced as needed, into any part of the solid surface of the wooden base. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call us at 1-800-876-5520.

This is such a beautiful and well made product. It is also unique and one of the reasons I purchased it as a gift. I also bought the Hammered Copper Birdhouse to go with my gift. Just a great pair! Quality products.
