Ready to move up to a bigger, better composter? We’ve used dozens of compost bins over the years, and have incorporated all the features we like best into our Deluxe Pyramid Composter. The lid is hinged so you can open it with one hand, yet it can’t blow away. Narrow side vents ensure good ventilation. Two sliding doors, front and back, stay open to make removing compost easy. Best of all, the signature self-watering lid lets in the right amount of rainwater for optimum performance. Convenience and large capacity at a great low price! Holds 12 cubic feet. Open bottom; add the optional Rodent Screen (sold separately) to keep pests out.

Corner snapped off of the top
from Ossinin, NY
Comments about : Deluxe Pyramid Composter:
Like many I found that the pieces didn't fit together well when I put this together. Over the weekend, after 1-1/2 years of ownership, I saw the top on the ground. The socket in one of the back corners of the top had broken off, rendering the top useless. I am now using a cobblestone to hold it in place.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Response to my review on 12/12/17 is misleading
I did assemble correctly. The unit top will not close - others have had the same comment. I may be able to modify when it is warmer here in VT but as supplied and assembled per the instructions the unit top will not close completely.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I recommend adding the grate the the bottom to keep pests out. Easy to assemble
Unit is fine except it will not close
from Bristol VT
Unlike other reviews on this site I had no problem putting the unit together. The instructions are very poor but a ssembly is pretty intuitive. Only issue I have is that the plastic that are used to close the top are much too big. I can only close one side at a time. I may be able to modify the hole locations for the screws so that I can close this but I Assembled it using the holes as pre-drilled by the manufacture.
Merchant response: We are sorry to hear that your composter isn't closing. Judging by your description, it sounds like you have reversed the position of the front and back panel, so that the back panel is in the front of the composter. This is a very common mistake, that will cause the composter lid to not fit correctly. If you switch the front and back panels with each other, it should solve the issue.
Fair-to-Good Composter, With Serious Fabrication Problems
from Santa Barbara, CA
The composter, a large rectangular box, is a simple and proven design. The four sides of the composter go together easily. All parts were present in the box. However, the plastic sides are flared out (away from the composter) more than an inch at the top, so getting the lid on is troublesome, if not impossible.I used a large woodworking clamp to *carefully* pull the two sides together at the back where the pivot points for the lid are located. After some struggles and a lot of sweat, I was finally successful in getting the lid attached. After removing the clamp, the lid still moves with sufficient ease to be functional.HOWEVER, the front sides are flared, as well. This means that the lid will not close completely. Ever. I can get the lid down over either the left or right snap point, but it will not expand and close over both.I'm hoping that with this review, someone from Gardener's Supply Company will contact me and provide me with a solution. Otherwise, sometime before the end of the year, I'll probably make an effort to cut part of the locking point off of the lid so that it can expand around the second snap point and close completely. Not fun. I should not have to do *any* of this for a product that costs almost $200. It should go together correctly, fit properly and function as designed. This one does not.If the product assembled and functioned as designed I would rate the product a 5. I've used similar products in the past and they compost well. As an on-line consumer, I do not expect to experience the product fabrication issues I have with this one.

Good Enclosure, Poor Hardware
from Redding, CA
Bought two, and one is cooking cleanup and grass now. Reasonably easy to assemble, sturdy when all the bolts are holding the sides together. No rain yet in California but top looks to be ready to allow an appropriate amount of water in. Volume is less than my previous free-sranding piles, and evaluating the produced compost delayed a month or three. Second unit not assembled until yesterday after third trip to hardware store. Included were wing nuta and washers, but no bolts. E-mail to Gardner produced no bolts or response (not the manufacturer's fault) and buying the bolts needed locally was frustrated by two different size wingmuts in the incomplete package. But, now it's ready to begun the second pile.
Awkward to put together
from Butte, Montana
I like this bin but it was awkward to put it together and I still can't get the lid on the way they describe. Also it sits a bit crooked - won't really square up. All that being said it still works well
So far, I love it!
from Rhode Island
Easy to assemble - fits well in my city back yard -doesn't take up a lot of space behind the garage. I love that the lid stays up when you open it. Just bought it, so I haven't gotten any real compost from it yet. I imagine the slide up doors at the bottom will make getting the compost out much easier.

This is not a good product
from Los Angeles
We've spent the morning trying to assemble this composter. The washers were missing so we had to go out and buy some. The panels are warped and don't fit together. One of the top corners cracked while we trying to fasten it to the other. We are unable to fit the top on or slide the panels up and down. There is no bottom to it so the compost would sit on the ground.
Would not recommend
I read reviews both here, on the manufacturer's site and other generic garden sites and everyone seemed to be pretty pleased with this so I ordered one.The construction is extremely poor. The sides do not fit together without a lot of muscling around and I needed a clamp and a hammer to get the top on which still does not fit properly. There are chunks out of the plastic where you can tell someone (or something) was trimming the plastic after it was molded but these molds are extremely poor. I even had to use a screw driver to make the hole on one of the sides wider to line it up.I really liked the size and features of this unit as for me it would have been perfect but I'm going to work to return it.
