Developed in Europe for use in horticultural laboratories, this unique propagation system is proven to grow healthier, more shock-resistant seedlings. The 3-1/2" tapered cells are 50% deeper than similar seed starters. Capillary mat and a water reservoir ensure your seedlings get the right amount of moisture.

sturdy but hard to get plants out
Comments about : Deep Root Seedstarting System, Black:
I have had this for several years and it has held up really well. It is nice to not have to buy new pots repeatedly. The capillary mat works well and I like to deep roots, but because the cells are made from a heavy solid plastic it is difficult to get the transplants out. The dirt stays soft and wet with the capillary mat and then when you try to get the plant out it all falls apart. If you try to tip it - you are tipping the whole collection and the study plastic that makes it last make it tricky to use. The thin plastic cheapy planters you can squeeze the plant out and sort of extrude it and you can't do that with these. If anyone has a secret to getting the plants out safely please let me know!

Love the large pockets
My tomatoes and peppers are doing well! Love the larger size of the pockets so the seedlings can grow more before being planted.

What is the return policy
This product seems tough and durable.

I plan to start early tomatoes and peppers to get a head start on the late spring frosts in Montana. It's too early to begin so the product is untested at this time.

I planted seeds and got a 90% return in a few days! The deep root system works so well, and the green house has kept them moist with little effort on my part!

I used this system last year to start tomatoes and peppers from seed for my vegetable garden. I chose this unit due to the self watering feature. We have 2 homes so my seedlings needed to go for about a week at a time with no additional water. That aspect of the units worked great. My seedlings never dried out. However I was a little disappointed in the root formation. The roots quickly grew out of the bottom of the cell, through the self watering mat and into the water tray. After 8 weeks the plants were large and healthy, however when I removed them from the cells the roots were not as vigorous as I expected. Fortunately they all survived transplanting and produced good crops. I would like to use them again this year but would like to figure out how to get better root formation.

I've been starting plants in my sunroom under grow lights and really needed a seed started for tomatoes. This is perfect! These new seed starters are great, now that they are all plastic.
