This crock is the perfect vessel for making homemade sauerkraut and kimchi, as well as pickling a wide variety of vegetables including beets, beans, carrots and cucumbers. The water trough airlock allows carbon dioxide and other fermentation gases to escape while keeping out air. Includes crock and top, as well as weights that keep vegetables submerged for effective fermentation.

Comments about : Complete Fermentation Crock, 1.3 Gallon:
I am a dietitian and I make many of our food items to avoid the added preservatives and sugar. This was such an easy product to use; I just added the ingredients, weighted everything down with the stoneware weights, and waited for the finished product. I love the option to purchase as a kit, with the weights included, holding the food under the liquid is an important part of the process of fermenting and this is so much easier than using plates or water-filled plastic bags. The water moat at the top of the crock allows the fermentation gas to bubble out gradually and avoids having to open the container to release the gas.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Actually made pickles!
from Fairfax, VA
As someone totally new to pickling, I was kind of shocked when real, crunchy pickles came out. I had been reading how fermented foods are good for digestion, so I picked this product as the easiest one to use. My problem was that the water around the rim kept evaporating (winter time), and when I didn't realize it, mold would get in, and I'd have to skim it off the top, which was awkward with the shape of the crock (I found it best to use a soup ladle and pour the water through coffee filters to strain out the mold). I also didn't realize at first that the lid had two gaps where the water needed to be higher to seal it, I guess to let the gas out of the crock. Still, the cucumbers came out pickles and tastey. So I'll try again with my wider experience.

I received my crock and it was shipped in a timely fashion, it was packed very well! I have already started a batch of sour kraut and it will be ready in a few days!
Why pay the high prices?

I TRIED TO MAKE "REAL SAUERKRAUT" MANY YEARS AGO BEFORE THE BENEFITS OF FERMENTED FOODS WERE GENERALLY WELL KNOWN AND ESPOUSED. I KNEW THERE WERE BENEFITS WHEN I CRAVED SAUERKRAUT JUICE (ALSO PICKLES) WITH MY FIRST PREGNANCY. IT'S NOT JUST A OLD WIVES' TALE. I THINK IT WAS THE B-VITAMINS. PRIOR TO THE INTERNET THERE WASN'T MUCH INFO OUT THERE ABOUT HOW TO MAKE IT. I TRIED, BUT FAILED A FEW TIMES. SO I BOUGHT HEALTH-FOOD-STORE SAUERKRAUT FOR A LONG TIME (TOO EXPENSIVE) UNTIL I FINALLY MADE UP MY MIND TO BUY THE GARDENERS' SUPPLY FERMENTATION CROCK FOR A GIFT FOR MY HUSBAND. THE CROCK IS THE REAL THING, AND SAUERKRAUT IS REALLY EASY TO MAKE. THE WEIGHTS MAKE IT EASY TO KEEP THE CABBAGE SUBMERGED, AND THE THE RIDGED RIM ALLOWS GASSES TO ESCAPE AND KEEPS THE LIQUID CONTAINED. WE SAVE MONEY AND GET THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF FERMENTED FOODS. I HAVE NOT TRIED TO MAKE OTHER FERMENTED FOODS YET, BUT I PLAN TO. GOOD ORGANIC PORK, SAUERKRAUT, ORGANIC APPLES AND POTATOES MAKE A GREAT WINTER MEAL. YUM, AND GOOD FOR YOU!
