Derived from coconut husks, carbon-rich Eco-co® Coir is handy for layering with nitrogen-rich kitchen scraps and lawn clippings in the compost pile, and it makes a good bedding material for worm composters. Our exclusive Eco-co® Coir is also an earth-friendly planting mix for use in pots, planters and window boxes, or as a peat-free alternative when you make your own planting mixes. Unlike other coirs, our Eco-co Coir undergoes a special process to remove salts and to balance the pH for optimal plant growth. Eco-co Coir has excellent water-holding capacity yet drains well — so important for healthy root growth. Our blend is a mix of fine and coarse grinds to provide the perfect environment for plant roots. Simply add water and each convenient compressed brick expands to 10 quarts of fluffy mix.

I bought these bricks to use as a base for homemade seed starting mix. I have used three of them so far, and the seedlings are looking good, with nice healthy root systems. I may or may not use the other nine this season, but I still have a lot more seeds to start, and any leftover bricks can easily be stacked out of the way for next year. I am pleased with how quickly and easily the coir hydrates, and how well it holds moisture without getting soggy or compacting. I will definitely buy them again for starting seeds, and possibly other uses. Now for my one negative comment, which is not really a big one: According to the description on this website, each brick expands to 10 dry quarts for a total of 4-2/3 cubic feet. There is no way that 10 dry quarts (likely a correct estimate) is equal to 4-2/3 cubic feet. That should be changed to avoid confusion.
Perfect for my raised bed garden
I bought the raised keyhole garden and purchased these bricks to help establish the base for my garden. Very helpful in water retention
This is great and I am already using it.

I've used this product many times over the past few years. I generally buy enough to last a couple of seasons as a soil conditioner for my veggie and flower gardens as well as patio pots. I just love how it lightens the soil and helps hold in moisture.

Easy to use, can't go wrong!

These bricks were easy to handle, open, and toss into my wheelbarrow in order to re-hydrate and use. I did 5-6 at a time and walked away and worked in the garden while they were absorbing the water I put in for them. I came back and checked on them and used my hand trowel to dig through the already hydrated coir to loosen them up. They re-hydrate quickly! Once they were all ready, I wheeled over to where I wanted to use them, and I shoveled this onto freshly weeded garden beds that needed a compost top dressing that are going to be mulched soon for the winter. This is what I'm using this product for- it may not be what everyone else is using it for but it makes sense to me!
I would buy this again

Didn't think I would be using all of these bricks, but now having used only 2, I know I will. My worms LOVE this stuff. So do my hanging plants. Holds water and moisture, reducing watering. No bad smell.
I would buy this product again and again hands down

I opened several bags and broke the bricks up into smaller pieces then spread around a newly planted tree. Watered it in good and it works great.
