Composter Needs Improvement

Comments about Single Bin Wire Composter:

As stated in other review, the plastic clips used to hold the sides together are very flimsy and fragile. I broke 3 before figuring out how to carefully get them to work, and I suspect that they will break over time. The clips should be made of rust-resistant metal, so they will last as long as the bin. I am glad I only bought one bin and not wasted money on the 3-bin set. There would not have been enough clips to hold it together. Even plastic cable ties would be better, since at least these wouldn't break on attempted installation.

Single Bin Wire Composter - Nice bin but clips no good

Cons

  • Clips Too Brittle

Comments about Single Bin Wire Composter:

Clips are brittle and break frequently during setup. Otherwise a nice bin.

I would recommend it as long you know the clips are made of an unsuitable brittle plastic and many if not most will break during setup...

I used cable ties to replace broken clips...

Comments about Single Bin Wire Composter:

This product is not being used for composting. The enclosures with added net screening are used to protect herbs and small tomato plants from deer and other varmits. Assembly required using cable ties and posts/rods to secure the enclosure. The furnished clips were not useful. An old, 20+years design, wire composter used wire rods through wire screen eyes to secure the enclosure. Far better design.

Bought my first ones a few years ago and they're still going strong. Even supported morning glory vines beautifully while hiding the compost inside! The compost pile has grown considerably so I had to get another one. Love the products from Gardeners Supply!!

Placed behind garage. Doesn't stand out like plastic bin composters. Used for leaves and twigs.

Comments about Single Bin Wire Composter:

There is little organic material in soils here, and scant rainfall. This easy to assemble bin (despite the impossible clips; I used wire to attach the sides)holds all the leaves that fall from a giant Ash. The plan is to compost in place and gradually improve the soil. Because the bin is light and easy to move, the location can change annually.

The wire is nice and solid; however, 3/4 of the snaps cracked in half when I tried to put them on the corners. And that was just using my hands, not a hammer. I'm using some sturdy velcro ties to hold the rest of the corners together, which works well.

I would have given this product a 4- or 5-star rating if it weren't for the snaps.

Comments about Single Bin Wire Composter:

This is a great product for what I wanted -- a sturdy place to pile up leaves to add to my kitchen compost. The wire panels are well built, strong, and attractive. However, the plastic snaps that are included to piece the panels together are very flimsy. 80% of the snaps broke in half as I was fitting them into place. This was not a deal-breaker, though, because I found some green garden cable ties to use instead. They worked very well, and I now have a great, functional leaf bin.
