    Comments about : Compact 3-Tier SunLite® Garden:

I love the size of this unit. It is perfect for a space in a dark corner of my kitchen. Even with just one of the three lights on, I enjoy the brightness it brings. The unit is well made and sturdy, and I expect it will last a long time. The assembly took awhile but it was pretty straightforward especially if you keep referring to the picture of the completed unit. I do wish they had made provisions for cord management. The three lights each have their own cord and plug. I ended up using cable ties to secure them to the upright posts, but clips on the posts would have been helpful.

      Comments about : Compact 3-Tier SunLite® Garden:

I agree with those who said it was difficult to assemble. I had the same problems.

I use it to start and grow 6 old-style, Styrofoam, 40-unit APS with everything from onions to watermelons, 240 seedlings in all. Not bad for such a small footprint. The two t5 elements in each shelf supply no where near enough light to do this. The first year that I tried, the plants around the edges of the tray dwindled and collapsed, and the plants in the middle grew tall and thin, and though many survived it took a long time to get them healthy in the ground. So I ordered 3 replacement light tiers, each with 4 t5 units. You can find these on line. I swapped them for the original light sources. They were heavier than the originals and the chain clamp that held them at the right height wouldn't hold. I replaced each of those clamps with a pair of stronger clamps, and now I'm in business. These things work so well and the plants are so robust that they need only a little hardening off. I put them in dappled sun for a few days and then full sun for a few days and then plant them.

There's just one problem: the 40 cell APS are no longer made. I'll keep mine going for as long as I can, though.

This was easier to put together than expected, although having two competent helpers to assemble the lighting components made a big difference. The directions were clear and the suggestions useful. I am looking forward to using this product - it should be a great asset this year and in the future.

        Comments about : Compact 3-Tier SunLite® Garden:

The final product itself is pretty nice, but overpriced and a pain to assemble due in part to poor instructions and in part to misaligned parts you have to fix. I'm not unhappy with the purchase, but I also think that they either need to lower the price or increase the quality control and rewrite the instruction packet.

        Tips & issues:
        1) The frame bar pieces have a set of holes that are flush to the metal on one side and dimpled in on another. The flush holes all go on the outside. This is not explained anywhere. Also, the first assembly picture is misleading. Ignore it and work from the third picture.
        2) The top frame bars have a recessed hole that needs a screw. It is tricky to get the screw through the recessed hole without losing it inside the hollow bar (but you can't easily get it back out because the ends are closed). Be careful when doing this.
        3) Several pieces had tilts in the screw-lock mechanisms such that the bars wouldn't align to be screwed together without adjustment. The instruction packet does mention this, but for such a high price point I think this shouldn't be such an issue.
        4) There are a couple screw hole covers (randomly, as other screws are left fully visible). These did not inset properly.
        5) Some frame bars and light covers had unremovable scratches/mars to the finish on them.
        6) Assembling the lights was very tricky. You should take the actual bulbs out first because the assembly would probably snap them. The light ballasts connect via a cord that only inserts in one way so make sure you put the cord in before snapping the light ballasts into the cover. The top of the covers is also sealed with a plastic that doesn't remove neatly around permanent metal pieces so there're little bits of plastic still visible on close inspection.
        7) The light chains snap into the tops of the light covers via a little metal piece. One was severely bent and we had to work it with needlenose pliers for quite a while to get it to be usable.

        Comments about : Compact 3-Tier SunLite® Garden:

This is the perfect size and looks terrific. All black and streamlined with unoffensive lighting and healthy seedling growing underneath it looks beautiful in the my kitchen. Aside from looks, it works great. The trays are a good size and the the 3 tiers give plenty of room for good variety of seeds. The light bulbs seem to just strength to grow seedlings without getting leggy. The light fixture moves up and down easily and although I've had no problems yet, the chain and it's connection to the lamp do look a little flimsy. The whole cart is on wheels which makes it easy to move around to check the plants in the back, water or move from place to place.
The assembly was challenging. I read the other reviews so was prepared for it. I laid all the pieces out, checked them in, made sure I had the tools and plenty of time. I followed the directions to the letter and it went smoothly, with minimal cursing. But it was not a throw together in 15 minutes kind of assembly, so be prepared.

Purchased this about 2 months ago. My huusband set it up without any problems, and he is not partticularly handy. I have lettuce growing as well as herbs. Last week I started annuals and the seedings are peeking out of the potting soil. I plan to use it next winter to grow herbs, lettuce, spinach, and such.

The Compact SunLite is everything I imagine an avid gardener's Grow Lite system should be. Perfect scale, fine craftsmanship, and not to mention, especially easy on the eyes. And Gardener's Supply Company is by and far everything I imagine an exceptional employee-owned company should be. One of the hoods arrived ever-so-slightly damaged, but after contacting customer service I had a new one at my doorstep no more than two days later - no questions asked. Highly recommend this product and company!

                Comments about : Compact 3-Tier SunLite® Garden:

I shopped carefully before deciding on this particular unit. I read a lot of reviews. And I am pleased with my choice. The unit is well built and was fairly easy to assemble, although it was helpful to have a second set of hands. I think it would have been tricky by myself. I had the same snag on the lights that others did, but it was easy and quick to correct. Yes, there's a little wasted space around the trays, but that's just not an issue for me. I have plenty of room for everything I wish to grow, and my seedlings all get even light. I think it's deliberate to make sure all of the plants are well within the reflector's range. My one issue is that the middle station has a slight height difference in the tray rails, so it rocks a little. I just shimmed it even. I highly recommend this grow station. It rocks!
