Works well, but soaker hose springs leaks

By Melissa

from Boston area

I bought and installed this within the last month. In theory, this is a great idea. It works really well except for the fact that I get regular leaks in the soaker hose, to the point where I have used up all of the extra couplers that they included. Now I know why.

Snip-n-Drip is so easy to assemble and use. Now I can drip water exactly where I want the water to go, so no water is wasted on non-plant areas, I can change configurations as needed over time. Very efficient.

The Snip and Drip system was applied around my roses and covered with mulch, looks nice and saves a lot of time as I had been hand watering.
When ordering I misread the description thinking it was 100 ft of hose and 50 ft of soaker which would have been perfect for my 9 roses spaced along 90 ft of fence. I had to buy more 1/2 inch hose to make it all work.

                              • Larger Plants

I finally got this system laid out after having to completely pull up what I'd done the first time. But that was my fault. This is quite a nice set of hoses. It's perfect for bushes and large plants laid out in a fairly regular pattern. Problem is, my shade perennial garden includes larger bushes like hydrangeas and peonies, and then in between are a lot of much smaller plants which are scattered in random patterns. The black hose is rather stiff and I never managed to work out the whirled stiffness, so I had to use some ground staples I had lying around, which worked great. I used up all the hose in a fairly small area and still didn't get all the smaller plants "in the loop." But I'm still pleased that I can water the majority of that garden during dry spells and in the hotter summer days w/o having to do it plant by plant myself. At 70, the joints and muscles aren't what they used to be!

Good Product but Could Be Better - Soaker Hose is Weak Link

                              • Unknown Soaker Flow Rate
                              • Unreliable Soaker Hose
                              • Uses Too Much Water

                              Best Uses

I purchased the Landscape Watering System with the optional Pressure Regulators and Manual Timer to water a Japanese Maple Tree and a number of hedges and plants in three different beds.
I wanted to use the soaker hose to apply water only where the objects were located that needed watering. I wanted to apply a specific amount of
water to the Japanese Maple. Unfortunately, I was not able to determine what the flow rate of the soaker hose was. Secondly the Soaker Hose split after only an hour or so of use and appears to be the weak link in the system.
All of the connectors, distribution hose, and timer worked well, were easy to use, and appeared to be of good quality.
In my application I needed a lot more of the distribution hose (50' supplied)and less Soaker Hose (100' supplied)

I have expanded the system to use the distribution hose to get water to the plant general area and then use a 1/4" micro drip line with appropriate emitter to apply a finite amount of water directly where it is needed, thus saving water. The soaker hose is being used to only water large items like trees.

I would recommend that potential buyers determine their specific watering needs in terms of total distribution hose footage, soaker hose, etc. before buying any system.

I believe that the enhanced system that I have described and am implementing puts a finite amount of water where it is needed without wasting water.

If the Landscaping System were upgraded with
a reliable soaker hose with known flow rate(s)
and 1/4" micro dip capabilities I would not hesitate to recommend it.

In this time of diminishing water supplies, all landscaping systems should enable the user to water their landscape items without wasting water.
This system as currently configured with an unreliable soaker hose of unknown flow rate does NOT allow purchasers of it to meet this objective.

When Governor Brown's executive order cutting water by 25%, I knew I needed to cut my water usage even more. The solution was a landscape snip-n-drip soaker system. It was easy to set up. It has kept our trees and perennials hydrated.
