    Comments about Rodent Screen:

Basically it is a piece of screen that fits into the bottom of the pyramid composter - not real sturdy but I hope it does the trick and keeps the rodents out.

      Comments about Rodent Screen:

I talked with a Customer Service rep before I purchased the rodent screen who said it would fit tight in the bottom of my composter. But not so!! I wired it in but had to spend extra time and effort that I wasn't expecting. Please enlarge to fit tightly in the bottom. Overall good quality, though.

        Comments about Rodent Screen:

We compost in an urban yard so rodent proofing is important. We have used this bin for years but the original rodent screen didn't last. I am happy to get a sturdier replacement .

        Rats in the compost

            Comments about Rodent Screen:

I used the screen from the get go. It worked for years, but a week ago when I opened the compost bin we had a family of small rats who had taken up residence in the bin. I opened it and they just looked like I was their personal chef, and said "What do you have for me today?" I'm assuming a hole has developed in the screen after a few years of use. The price may be a bit steep if it is necessary to replace every few years. Irregardless, I'm getting another screen. I use it with the Deluxe Pyramid Composter which works great. Black gold.

            Comments about Rodent Screen:

The rodent screen is well made; however, it is a little small. An inch or two larger and it could slide into the grooves under the clean-out doors of the composter, thus actually being installed into the composter rather than just lying on 2 pieces of plastic curved under the sides where it may have shifted with my first toss of grass clippings. I also feel it should be part of the composter itself instead of being sold separately.

              Comments about Rodent Screen:

I've used this screen for 5 or 6 years and just moved to a new house and brought my composter and this screen, which I haven't seen since I last moved. It now has huge rust chunks all over it and numerous holes. Granted, it appears to have fulfilled its intended purpose, but rather than buying another one every 4 or 5 years, I'll likely just lay mesh over what remains of the screen to try to keep pests out.

perfect for breaking down all those falling leaves. I used to bag about 70 bags for the dump each year but this has helped me reduce that load greatly. Since I have a lot of trees in my back yard I was worried about the vermin but haven't had any issue. Of course, if i could remember to close the lid all the time those silly squirrels wouldn't be able to bury their peanuts.

This is a good addition to the Pyramid composter. I would have given it 5 stars except that it is a bit too small for a snug fit and I had to use duct tape to keep it in place.

                Comments about Rodent Screen:

The rodent screen does the job it's intended to do, but the fit isn't the best. I laid it on the ground and sat the composter on top of it making the composter a bit wobbly. I think there must be a way to make this so it fits quite well. Either way, it works and wasn't too expensive. I still recommend it to keep the bottom dwelling critters out of the compost!
