Sized to fit neatly atop our 2' x 8' Elevated Cedar Raised Bed, this attractive cold frame may also be used on the ground to start seeds, harden off transplants, and grow greens and other cool-season crops. The narrow footprint makes it ideal for setting up along your driveway or walkway, or install it next to your house. The base is made from rot-resistant cedar with aluminum corners. The top is made with polycarbonate panels that diffuse light so plants don't "cook," and there are adjustable braces to hold panels at various intervals for ventilation.

This is ideal for the cold windy springs we have. I start my carrots, lettuce. spinich, parcely and direct sow tomato seeds. My husband made me one and he really couldn't do it cheaper. I plan on ordering another.
the only improvement would be if the covers could be latched in the open vent position to prevent the wind from blowing them open.

      I would buy it again.
Although it is minor shortcoming, the wind could blow the lid open. I was able to easily make a little gadget that prevents that.

Using to house young tomato and vegetable plants until can be planted outdoors

          Using to start flower seeds

We are using the uninvent openers and they work well with this unit

We did build a bottom frame from 2 x 8 so as to raise the coldframe higher to allow for taller plants

We bought the raised bed and the cold frame that matched in size. They were fairly easy to put together and made of beautiful materials. We had some difficulty lining up the two clear covers with the rest of the frame, but managed in the end to make it work.
Lettuce and peas have just started to sprout despite late winter's cold nights!

              • Extending growing season

Overall a good product, however, if I had had the time, I think I would have been able to build this for the same price or less. There is only one size for the opening, so I purchased automatic vent openers, however thier installation reduces the amount of growing space by about a square foot. Also one of the boards was slightly bowed, but easily was pushed and held back into place with a 1x2.

I was most pleased with the corner brackets being air tight, but was left wanting with how the top window edge lines up with the back board.

The window is of good construction and overall the product was easy to build.

For those who are handy, build your own, for those who want easy set up, this is your item!

I bought the product to save the time and effort of asking my husband to build me a cold frame. I like this cold frame because it fits well on my deck in the area I selected for it and it will allow me to grow salad greens right next to my kitchen. I think I will also get one for one of my raised beds, as well, as it will fit nicely on the raised bed I have in mind for a cold frame.
