Exclusive | The Perfect Soil Mix for Self-Watering Containers

  • Lightweight mix wicks water from the reservoir to the root system
  • Well-drained to prevent waterlogged soil
  • Specially formulated for self-watering containers; also great for standard planters

Our field tests prove it: In self-watering planters, this lightweight mix works better than conventional potting soil. Its coarse, airy texture acts like a wick, carrying water from the planter’s reservoir to the root system. The result is more vigorous root growth, better aeration and less waterlogging. It's also an ideal mix for standard pots and planters. Contains sphagnum peat, perlite, vermiculite and limestone. 20-quart bag.

        Comments about Self-Watering Container Mix:

I used this soil in my self-watering boxes and it works very well. Summers in my area are hot and can be very humid, but this soil does not dry out quickly like most potting soils.

          Comments about Self-Watering Container Mix:

I purchased the self watering pots and used the wrong soil in them. While it sort of worked I realize that this soil is really the best for wicking. At first I thought the soil was weird because you have to hydrate it but then it perked right up and everything was okay. Its very good. I'm looking forward to big beautiful flowers.

            Comments about Self-Watering Container Mix:

I use the self-watering container mix in my tomato success planter. I have indeed tried regular potting soil but each time I did my tomatoes got blossom-end rot; I'm convinced that the bags of potting soil from the hardware store bring with them harmful contaminants. Right now it's a third of the way through June in St Louis Missouri and my tomato plants are five feet tall and full of green, healthy tomatoes.

I use the Self-Watering Container Mix for all my deck planters. Vegies or flowers do extremely well with this soil and self-watering containers. I always have a large crop of tomatoes and feed many families with the tomatoes I grow on my deck.

Great product for the price. I found that by purchasing the self watering container mix we saved money over buying locally, even if you add in the shipping. We prefer this mix even over miracle grow. I highly recommend this product over anything sold locally.

My only complaint was how messy it was to mix it with water. I added the water directly to the bag and mixed.

When my mother broke her shoulder, she missed planting her tomatoes in the garden. I bought and assembled this for her and placed it on her patio. All she had to do was step out the door and helps herself. Now every mother's day I give her a new pair of tomatoes that she can enjoy. It's also very low mantanence!!

I was pleased that all the directions were so simple. Mixing the soil with the water was easier using a separate container just as they suggested, before transferring it to the appropriate planter.
