I've placed the red mulch sheet under my tomatoes and pepper plants in a 4-foot raised bed, secured with earth staples. It has been in place now for about three weeks, through torrential rain, high winds, and temperatures that have fluctuated from 33 to 80 degrees. It's held up beautifully and looks just like when I installed it. I don't know if it will help promote tomato growth or ripening yet, but it has helped to cut down on weeding!

Last year I bought red tomato mulch from a different company and it did not let the rain water through. Gardner's red tomato mulch has small perforations that let moisture get to the soil.

Maybe it was the drought last summer, but these red sheets only seemed to contribute to my tomato plants cooking in the heat. I used garden staples to hold them down, but when I didn't make it out quickly enough to take them up, they blew into the trees. :-( Only negative comment I've had about anything from Gardeners.com.

I used the 'Red Tomato Mulch' in my vegetable garden around all my tomatoes and, because I had some left over, I used it around my pepper plants. It is easy to use, especially with landscaping pins and the tomato towers, which insert right through the mulch material. The soil stays moist underneath the plastic, and only a few weeds grew beneath, but they were spindly and easy to remove. In years past, I have had trouble with blight, and the mulch seems to help combat the problem. I don't usually reuse this product, but I guess you could hose it off and save it for the next season. I'm not certain whether the tomatoes produced any better with the mulch, but the garden stayed neater and more moist.
