Description
These Wine Caps (Stropharia rugoso-annulata) from Field & Forest Products are the easiest to grow garden mushrooms and serve as a decomposer of wood chips and/or straw. Grown in beds, Wine Cap mushrooms grow quickly and their port wine-colored caps and white stalks are great for braising, sautéing, grilling or pickling. Wine Cap beds should be planted in partially shaded areas where they can be watered. Planted in the garden in wood chipped paths, under fruit trees, or under perennial plantings, the Wine Cap mycelium can help build soil organic matter while producing a beautiful crop! Wine Cap can also be planted over sod (a layer of cardboard must be laid down first). One 5.5 lb. bag plants a 50 sq. ft bed of hardwood chips 6" deep.
