The Poppy Sways are handmade of steel. If nicked or scratched and left to oxidize naturally, the black and red powder-coated surfaces will develop a rusty patina. To help retain the existing powder-coated finish, apply a clear, exterior-grade polyurethane sealant to the black and red surfaces.
On the copper-plated sways, the copper will age to an old-penny finish. To keep the copper shiny, apply car wax prior to exposing to the weather. Reapply twice a year.
If you apply a sealant, make sure it is completely dry before exposing it to moisture or sunlight. Polyurethane, which is available at paint stores, requires regular maintenance and must be re-applied before deterioration of the old finish begins, usually about once a year.
Because the Poppy Sways are handcrafted, each one is unique. Variations in color and shading distinguish them from mass-produced products.
