What I do here: I provide detailed product information for our team of sales and service representatives.

When I started at Gardener's Supply: 1999

My gardening style: I enjoy starting seeds under lights because it gets me through the the long, cold, dark months in the northeast.

Vegetables or flowers? Flowers mostly. I grow bells of Ireland, zinnias, pincushion flowers, Asiatic and Oriental lilies, and daylilies. I also like to grow tender bulbs, corms and tubers, such as calla lilies, cannas, elephant ears (colocasia), caladiums, dahlias and hibiscus.

Best gardening tip I ever got: Two, actually.

  1. Scatter copper pennies on the soil surface before hosta plants emerge in spring. It really helps dissuade the slugs and snails.
  2. When planting bulbs, corms and tubers, use Diatomaceous Earth to help keep pests away.

What do you like about working at Gardener's Supply? I love learning tips and techniques from fellow employee-owners who are diehard gardeners too. I also enjoy working for a company that gives back as much as it can, when it can. Each year, I get a maximum of eight hours of paid volunteer time.

One of the places I volunteer is Dismas House, where we help people make the transition back to society after being incarcerated. It amazes me how growing food together can break down barriers.

Favorite free-time activities: Tops on the list is themed dinner parties. One year we did a traditional Victorian Christmas dinner that had 12 courses and went all night.

What people probably don’t know about me: I am a writer, working on a play and pitching a show for TV Land. Some friends are writing the pilot with me.
