These deceptively simple tomato plant surrounds will produce healthier, more productive tomato plants with less effort from you. When planting, just slip an automator around the stem of each seedling to suppress weeds and protect against cutworms. Perforated cones direct water to the root zone. Bright red color triggers a natural plant protein that makes tomatoes mature faster and produce more fruit. Easy to use, but provides a big boost to your tomatoes.

I have purchased and used these before
Comments about : Tomato Automators, Set of 3:
We noticed a big difference in the size, quantity and quality of our tomatoes between the plants that had the automators and those that didn't. Thus the reason we purchased more for next year!

Seem to do the job.

I agree that these are a bit flimsier than they look, although I suppose they have to be so that you can twist them to get them around the plant stems, and they do have sharp edges that can cut the plant stems if you're not careful, but once they are in place they seem to work as described. I'm not through the first season with them, and I don't have a "control" tomato plant for comparison, but I know that red surfaces are supposed to promote growth and the trays do provide a water reservoir. I think they can be reused, but need to be handled carefully to do so. Their size is just the right difference to have between plants, at least according to square-foot gardening!
So Far, So Good
I agree with other reviewers that these are kind of flimsy and the inside edges are sharp and could damage the plants. I had to sort of twist them to get them safely around the stems. That being said, I put them around plants I'd already planted a few weeks before so maybe it would be easier to put them around younger plants. But once they are in, they do seem to do the job: acting as a reservoir and mulch, promoting growth. These are reusable, but only if handled with care.
Takes up quite a bit of space.

I wasn't able to use it in my garden as I overplant and use extra feeding due to small space gardening.

Our summers are dry and it is hard to keep the tomatoes watered, and not splash the water up on the plants. These are just what we need to help keep the soil evenly moist and prevent disease and insects from devastating our crops.

Ok, so I followed the directions and to give this product some credit, we did have an extremely dry summer. I didn't throw them out but was tempted. Instead, I'm going to try to enlarge the holes so some water actually gets to the plants. My tomatoes did unusually bad so I pulled them up yesterday only to find the the earth beneath was unusually dry. I don't think they got enough water at all and came close to using them as a frisbee into the neighbors yard. I did a lot of watering for nothing.
