Works great in my self watering planters
from Pasadena, CA
Comments about : Organic Self-Watering Potting Mix, 20 Qts.:
This is my first year with self watering planters. I'm growing herbs and vegetables on my patio. Everything has been growing healthy and strong for the last 6+ months. The soil composition seems perfect for the planters. Retains moisture but not soggy. I do feed my plants regularly with organic fertilizer, and fluff up the soil when I do. I've tried using it in regular pots but I think regular potting soil is better for those.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Repurchasing a Great Product for a Second Year!
from Port Orchard, WA
This will be my second year with Gardner Supplies' Tomato Kits. My tomato plants last year in these planters using this fertilizer were the most prolific and beautiful tomatoes I've ever grown! So this year I am buying new fertilizer and soil for the planter I bought last year PLUS a new second planter kit for double the yum.
Purchased for seven gallon tubtrug.
I used this soil last year in one of Gardeners self watering urns with awesome results. I plan to use this bag in one of Gardeners tubtrug' s with the self watering insert.
This is the second time I bought the mix
This is a good quality mix, used it for household flowers
nice rich potting mix

Testing this out for use in standing planters to be placed on a deck, needing a lightweight mix. Gardener's Supply could not tell me the saturated weight (topsoil is ~120 lbs/cu ft saturated, too heavy for rooftop or deck gardens, our structural engineer for the deck recommends keeping it to ~40-50 lbs/cu ft saturated). 10 quarts = is 0.334 cu ft. When I weighed the 20 quart bags dry, each was ~12 lbs. I took samples and weighed them dry, then saturated and drained, and determined that wet the weight increases by a factor of 2.77. So a 20 quart bag would be 33.24 lbs saturated, or a cu ft (1.5 bags) would be 49.86 lbs saturated. I have also ordered bags of GS Potting Mix, which claims to be lightweight in the description, and the Organic Potting Mix, to run similar tests on them. I do wish GS would provide more info in their descriptions of these products (proportions of the various components - even once you buy a bag, the most you know is that it is 60-65% peat moss, the proportions of peat humus and perlite are not specified). I have used this product in some planters I have, plants seem to be doing well so far.
Beautiful plants on there way - here's hoping so.

My wife is an enthusiastic indoor and outdoor gardener, so here is hoping that the potting mix gets everything she plants in the Spring to come up roses - well beautiful looking if not roses as such.
