The product that started the "red revolution," this remarkable red mulch helps tomato plants grow faster and produce more abundant crops. Developed jointly by the USDA and Clemson University, and proven effective in tests by a leading consumer magazine, this specially engineered red mulch reflects far-red light wavelengths upward into your tomato plants. This triggers the release of a natural plant protein that stimulates more rapid growth and development. Your plants will mature faster, look bushier, and give you a more flavorful, more abundant harvest than ever before. Also may be used with strawberries, melons, red peppers and other crops that fruit above ground. Micro-perforations allow water, air and nutrients to reach the soil surface. Not designed for weed suppression. 24' L x 3' W. Easy to anchor with Earth Staples, sold separately.

Comments about : Red Tomato Mulch:
I couldn't really tell if the red color helped the tomatoes. It did keep weeds in check. When I tried to carefully pull it up to use again, it shredded and I had to throw it out. Financially and environmentally bad.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I use it between my tomatoes to increase productivity. I absolutely notice a difference. It is easy to work with and lasts a long time.Sometimes with heavy rain it gets covered with mud and I have to clean it off.

I'm not sure how much this is helping my tomatoes, but they are healthy plants. I planted them in straw bales this year for the first time and not knowing what to expect, I guess they are ok. My friend has beautiful plants and said she uses this mulch and it makes a world of difference in her plants. I'm hoping mine are just a little behind and will bush out like hers. Will use it again next year and compare.
Red Plastic Mulch for Tomatoes
This is the second year I've tried red plastic mulch under my tomatoes. And, this year I was pleased to find your mulch has tiny holes to allow water to penetrate. So, I'm expecting to have a bumper crop of tomatoes this year!

It's really too early to tell, but keeps down weeds
from Eagle, Idaho
I think it's too early to tell the results it will have on my tomatoes, but it does keep down weeds and hold moisture in. I bought it after I had my tomatoes in the ground...next time I would put it down then plant the tomatoes. It was a little difficult to put down in my 4x4 boxes when the tomatoes were already planted.
We have been using this product for years.

About Me Budget Shopper
Several years ago, I read an article in "Zone 4" magazine (now known as "Rocky MT Gardening") that described using Red Tomato Mulch, Walls of Water, and insulating fabric to extend the tomato season. Since combining the 3 season extenders, I've doubled my tomato output. Out here in Montana, at 4500 feet, we need to be creative to maximize our summer vegetable and fruit production!
