This hand-operated, self-contained shredder chops food scraps into small pieces so they compost faster and more uniformly. Its compact, flat-back design means it can sit on the countertop or underneath most kitchen cabinets. Stainless steel blades are housed in a removable cartridge for easy cleaning. A handy drawer catches and holds up to one gallon of scraps until it's time to bring them out to the compost bin; may be used with Bio Bags (sold separately). An industrial-strength suction cup holds it securely to the counter; micro vents and a zeolite filter reduce odors.

Comments about : Green Cycler Pre-Composter:
NOT a counter top or cabinet item unless you have a BIG kitchen, which I don't. The suction cups don't keep it in place when dealing with slightly tougher items like orange peels or carrot tops, you have to put your weight onto it! the opening to put in your materials is actually pretty small unless you have it standing open on the counter so you can put your scraps in as you go along - but then I wouldn't have the counter space to prepare the meal! But it does make bigger items that compost slowly into smaller pieces that will compost quicker, especially if you are using a tumbler or other composting container rather than a hot pile. it also does seem to contain any odor and keeps things clean.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Getting Started
This helps cut up the scraps for putting into the composter. A little difficult to clean. You really need to clean it often to prevent odors ans=d fruit flies. But it has helped me getting scraps ready for the composter instead of cutting them up with scissors.
Good idea that needs work
I bought this last year because I wanted the grinding function. It worked well for soft items, but the handle broke after a couple of months of use.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

My favorite birthday Gift!!
By Garden Gal

I've been composting for many years and there is always a pile of fruit and veggie scraps on my counter. Little did I realize that my "eye sore" of a bucket was a turn off to my family. So, they bought me this nifty gadget and it works great. It chops stuff JUST ENOUGH to help it compost faster. It seems like my worms also like gazpacho better than blended leftovers. ( :

Green cycler pre composter

I always had trouble turning the compost easy now.

I got this because I just started worm composting I wanted a way to chop up my "Browns" - leaves from my yard & dried up weeds. They just end up slipping through without much getting broken into smaller pieces. I don't have an issue using my blender or food processor for prepping my greens since they are scraps of what I've eaten, but I don't really want to use them for garden waste.... In the next season, I'll be better prepared & shred my yard waste outside with a shredder instead.
Easy to use, speeds up composting

Could not be simpler to use. Seems very durable.

Daily because of our high intake of veggies and fruit can just sit on counter.Though I could use one abit larger.

Chews Up Kitchen Waste, but Moldy
from League City, TX
I have been composting for five years in compost tumblers. These work well, but I often don't cut up full-size produce which has spoiled, banana peels, or egg shells. When I saw the Green Cycler product on the Gardeners' site I was excited to try it, hoping to speed my compost turnaround and add convenience in the kitchen. We used the product for two weeks. It did work well to break down fruit and vegetable scraps into small pieces, but in the end it isn't for us and we will be returning it. Large fruits like grapefruits do not fit into the mouth of the Green Cycler and we had to chop them up before running through the green cycler (defeating the purpose a bit). The Green Cycler worked well on egg shells, onion peels, small tomatoes, herbs, and banana peels. Odors were fairly well contained within the unit, but very strong upon opening the lid or removing the bin to dump it. Prior to this we used an open top compost bucket and never had issues with odor or mold. The Green Cycler retained moisture and molded terribly on the inside. I believe this is what caused the odor issues. This was not the driving factor for our return, but the clear lid to the Green Cycler would not fully open when the unit was placed on our countertops under the kitchen cabinets. Because of this we kept it on the more open part of our kitchen counters which was not an ideal storage location for space. The lid, chopper, and bin are removable. We ran them through the dish washer, but they didn't come fully clean. Clean enough for routine operation, but not as clean as I would have liked.
