Drying is a simple way to preserve fruits, vegetables and herbs, and it yields easy-to-store, nutrient-dense foods for year-round use. Save money by making your own dried tomatoes, cherries, cranberries, herbs, jerky and more — without preservatives or artificial colors. The thermostat on this powerful, 600-watt dehydrator by Nesco lets you fine-tune the temperature, and the patented air-flow system forces air down the exterior chamber to ensure even drying and maximum quality results. Hot air is forced horizontally across each individual tray; there is no flavor mixing and no need to rotate trays.

Expensive but worth it

I bought this dehydrator to be able to dry my own apple slices because they have been increasingly difficult to find at our stores. I dried my first batch and they taste amazing. More flavor than the ones purchased at stores. But the cost of this dehydrator will take a long time to recoup. However, it is easy to use and now I have found other things I will likely dry, such as herbs and seeds that I want to save from plants I have grown. So buy it for the convenience and improved quality of your own dehydrated produce, not to save money, although if you use it a lot, that might be a consideration.

Love our new dehydrator! We've made many batches of beef jerky, which never seem to last more than a few days (because we eat it!). Fairly easy clean-up; we just let the trays soak for a few hours, and then use the sink sprayer to spray off any debris (comes off easily), and then give it a rub down with soap, and rinse!
