The openings on the cage surrounding this polycarbonate tube feeder are just the right size for finches, nuthatches and other small birds, but keep out jays and other feeder bullies. The latching top stays firmly in place to help keep gray squirrels out of your birdseed, and drainage holes at the bottom keep seed dry and fresh.

Wonderful for small birds and the first feeder I've purchased that defeated the squirrels attempts at entry!!

I loved that the small birds loved it. But, the dang Chipmunks ate all of the seed(not ate, brought it back to their burrow, back & forth, back & forth, within 45 mins all of the seed was gone! I guess they didn't starve that winter. So, that is why I was disappointed. And the squirrels would stink their heads thru the bars & somehow wiggle in enough to get the seed out. So, that was a waste of money!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Would not buy this product again
Sent in very flimsy cardboard box mostly crushed and open in one area. Surprisingly the feeder wasn't damaged. I like that only the little birds can get in it which is why I ordered it. However once the seed passes down past the upper holes they are unable to access the feed from the lower holes. The picture does not show it when empty. It appears as if the seed goes to the bottom but the bottom is convex so like an upside cup. This pushes a small amount of seed to the outside giving it the appearance that they could get the seed but they can't. The capacity is smaller than our old one and half the seed remains every day besides.

LIDS NEED TO SCREW ON. Our squirrels quickly found a way to pry it off...We have tried several things to deter their entry, but still manage to get the lid off. Once the feed gets below their grasp, and it's amazing how far down they can hang down the tube, the little birds can come on in. Until we can figure out something, we'll refill to below their reach. (Any ideas?)
Great Gift for your Nature-loving Friends and Family!

I bought this to give to a friend of mine for the holidays. She loved it and thought it was the perfect gift since she can keep it out all year long.
Lid does not stay on
from Upton, MA
I bought this feeder after spending a long time researching bird feeders and reading all the reviews. I am disappointed with it because the lid does not stay closed. I am not sure if the squirrels or the wind are constantly popping it off, but it is always open and hanging down. The birds do use it, but don't seem crazy about it. It may be because they have to go inside the cage to get the food. I'm not sure if it will hold up in the winter here in New England, I'm sure the food will blow out all over the place as the lid never stays on.

Don't like the new design
By Chipmunk chaser
We have used previous design with the mesh tube for years and need to replace due to squirrel damage. Don't like the plastic tube because I can see the chipmunks and squirrels chewing holes in the plastic. It took them a couple of years to destroy the metal tube - plastic won't be any challenge for them!

I'm going to use these in a courtyard garden over the winter. Very attractive. I haven't used them yet so don't know if small rodents will be able to get at them but I like that only small birds can feed on this. The packaging was very damaged when I received them. Boxes dented and strapping hanging off. Feeders were okay but I'm surprised they weren't damaged.
Squirrel proof bird feeder indeed.
Chickadees are swarming my feeder it's a great design. Easy to fill.
I would recommend this product to any bird lover.

To keep the squirrels from getting in the feeder. They are smart but have not found a way to get in this feeder.
