Milky Spore is a naturally occurring microscopic bacteria (Bacillus popilliae) that kills Japanese beetle grubs before they can grow into ravenous adults. It's a long-term solution because it survives winter temperatures. The Milky Spore population increases each year, reaching peak effectiveness about three years after application, and lasts ten years or more.

Comments about : Milky Spore 10 Oz.:
I applied this over my yard about thirteen or fourteen years ago. I noticed that the June Bugs or grubs were bad again last year. It worked for many years so I am doing it again.

When doing some prep work in my garden, I noticed that I had a large number of grubs. In doing my research, it seems that the best approach would be to do a combination of nematodes and milky spore. The milky spore does not start working until about a year after application and the nematodes will get to work right away. The milky spore is a fine powder and should be applied immediately after or during a rain to help it penetrate into the ground. I found that the best way to accomplish this was to poke a few small holes in one end of a small rectangular disposable aluminum tin. I used an equally sized tin for a lid. I applied during a rain and the powder stayed dry and did not clump. Just tilt the tin and shake. Simple.

I have not applied the Milky Spore yet as the weather has not been appropriate. I am a little concerned that we are at such a high altitude with winter temps that can be well below minus 30, I wonder if grubs can survive at these low temps and if not I wonder if grubs are the problem. I am,however. impressed with the knowledge that your employees have.
Merchant response: The Milky Spore a hard outer shell around each spore that provides natural protection from such temperatures. It is OK to apply if it is not heavily raining and they will survive the winter.

disappointed in the packaging
from Southwestern, PA
My cousin told me about milky spore and said it has worked for him for many years. I just put this on my lawn a couple of weeks ago. I am very disappointed in how the product is packaged. It is not easy to pour from the plastic bag into the tube applicator. Why is the product not packaged IN the applicator? or at least in packaging that makes it easier to put it into the applicator? After filling the applicator, applying the milky spore is easy; you just walk along and tap it against the ground to apply a small amount to the ground at 4 ft. intervals.
Works as advertised

Used this system at my previous yard, after my roses were devoured by Japanese beatles. Once applied, no more trouble, in fact the improvement lasted For many years. Now I am starting at a new garden and saw the J beatles on my roses, so at least this time I know the solution,

Run Grubs, Run!
Applied this to an old lawn (1950's), which was infested. Horrible. Put it down at a non-optimal time of the Japanese Beetle cycle. Crossed fingers. Next year, saw about a 90% DECREASE in Japanese Beetles! This says it all. Worth every penny, and fun to apply!
