Exclusive | Vermont-Built Large Garden Cart Carries 500 Pounds

  • Tough, long-lasting cart holds up to 500 pounds — as much as 10 wheelbarrows!
  • Even weight distribution and big, pneumatic wheels make pushing and pulling easy
  • End slides open for easy loading, unloading and dumping
  • Watch: Our Vermont Factory

For over 25 years, our garden carts have been a beloved tool of gardeners everywhere. That’s because they were designed specifically to meet the needs of gardeners, not adapted from an industrial utility cart. This garden cart has big wheels with pneumatic tires that roll easily over rough terrain. High sides prevent loose loads like mulch and compost from bouncing out. The axle is positioned to distribute the weight and balance the load. The long handle lets you push or pull with equal ease and has a comfortable neoprene grip. Tough, rust-proof aluminum frame; end slides open for easy dumping. Once you own one of our carts, it’s hard to imagine getting by without it. In fact, many of the original carts are still out there, working hard. Rated "Excellent" by a leading consumer magazine.

Wheel bearings and race gave out within two years - cheap.

Comments about : Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

I've owned two. The first I purchased after I sold my old Saab for the purchase price about fifteen years ago. It was so good and so strong but the plywood rotted and this was the only reason I purchased my second large Gardenway cart. Fortunately I kept the wheels, axle and some fittings. My second and last Gardenway cart failed within two years. Both wheel bearing races actually fell out. Now, look, I'm 68 and used this cart way less than my first and still it failed. I'm now in the process of putting the old axle and wheels on the new cart. I'm angry about the quality of this new cart every day. I'm not asking for anything as I'm very bad at keeping receipts and such. I purchased the most expensive one btw, online.

Pre-Drilled Holes Not Matched Up Well For Assembly

By Grandpa B

Comments about : Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

A lot of the pre-drilled holes (wood) did not line up with the corresponding holes in the metal framework. Most were when fitting the side panels to the bottom panel.

The fix was shaving 1/8 to 1/4 inch off the bottom of both side panels. Even then, the height was ok with the holes, but some left-to-right line-ups were a little off. A little wood removal (widening) was necessary for those.

Wondering if my cart parts were done on Monday morning or Friday afternoon ?

One axle end needed a little filing to install the wheel. Minor issue.

Customer service was excellent in providing three replacement panels and hardware bag, when I described the problem over the phone.

The quality of all the materials was first rate. The placement of the pre-drilled holes in the wood was not.

The instructions are ok, but are a little difficult to follow here and there. I read both the on-line and the paper supplied. I suggest you get a true Virgo to review and re-write.

Overall it is a high quality cart. Once I use it a while, I will post an update based on my usage.

update 8/2017..... I have had a problem with one tire losing air. I repaired the hole in the side of the tube, but the tube looked defective in other places also. Tube could be better quality. Did not hold air after the repair. A call to customer service resolved this issue.

Comments about : Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

I have used this cart that we bought in Troy,NY from original maker for over 30 years , and it is still going great. Had to paint the inside wood a few years ago as it was beginning to show signs of wear and tear, but is good as new again! IF I am still gardening when I need a replacement, I will definitely get a new one of these!

My husband I have put many "things" together over the 30 years of marriage, he is a very patient man and very handy. But this cart put his patience to a test! It took us over 2 hours to assemble this large garden cart. The directions are terrible! Not clear and pretty much inaccurate. Especially putting the front U-brace and the aluminum Angles onto the front end. The pictures don't show accurately where things belong. The T-nuts would fall out when we were screwing in the bolts into them. The holes of the wood panels, brackets didn't line up to insert the screws. We had to use brute strength a few times to get them installed. Overall, the directions and the assembly of this large cart is just awful. We paid a lot of money for this cart, it better hold up after all this aggravation of putting it together!

            Excessive Assembly Time

Comments about : Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

Having read the difficult assembly reviews, I was dreading putting this together. The instructions were clear enough and the holes were clean enough to insert the t-nuts and hammer home. All the hardware was present in the bag. I didn't think it was bad until I had to mount the legs after mounting the handle. The handle out of the box was a tad too wide from corner to corner. That prevented the front foot of the leg assembly and half clamp to align with the t-nut. I had to disassemble the handle and bend the handle ends inward. But that meant I couldn't align the handle ends and full clamps. The solution was to loosely assemble one side with full clamps and stick the axle in the other end as a lever and bend it around the rear leg extension. The handle is a little lopsided. A few suggestions from lessons learned: don't tighten all the screws until the part your working on has wiggled into alignment and all the screw threads catching in the t-nuts; may have to use a little muscle to align things; but they do align for the most part; fully support the piece directly underneath to hammer home the t-nuts; use some large fender washers on the inside of each wheel as someone else suggested. In retrospect, I would have mortised the t-nuts in the bottom of the cart with a Forstner bit so they were flush with the surface of the plywood. May have to use sacrificial dowel in the t-nut hole to properly center the bit. I would take the time to do that if doing it again and others have criticized the protruding t-nuts. Cart is sturdy and of very good quality.
