If you have always thought that hummingbird nectar should be red, you'll want to know that the red color comes from a chemical dye that may be harmful to birds. We recommend this clear nectar that's better for hummingbirds and easier for you, because it mixes up instantly with tap water — no boiling necessary! Make it in small quantities as needed and it will stay fresh and wholesome. Makes 3 quarts of nectar.

Does not attract hummingbirds
from St. Clair Shores, MI
disappointed--have not yet attracted hummingbirds to the feeder, even though they are in my yard on my sage plants. I clean and change it every 2 days. Don't know if the problem is with the nectar or the feeder itself.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Coloring is not proved harmful!
from Simi Valley, Ca
I had bought this a while back and believed what they said about the red dye being harmful to the birds just to find out later with some research that in fact... There has been no real study on it and there is no proof to say it is or isn't harmful... Now I don't buy either and make my own.. It is a ton cheaper and I know what my lil ones are getting!...
