New! Last year several customers reported such a bounty of tomatoes that the plant's weight grew too heavy for the support. Our redesigned support is extra-sturdy for this year's tomato bonanza!

Nothing tastes better than tomatoes harvested fresh from the vine! Now you can look forward to a season’s worth of bounty with our revolutionary planter. Advanced technology makes this small-space system a convenient and foolproof way to grow a super-productive tomato plant right on your deck or patio. Also great for peppers and eggplant. We recommend using the included tie-back to secure the planter to a post or railing.

Success starts in the roots. The perforated planter with Honeycomb Ventilation and lightweight Grow Bag liner air-prune roots, ensuring a dense, vigorous root system that can take up more water and nutrients — the secret to a super-productive plant.

Dual-Hydrate Watering System. Draws water from the reservoir into the soil two ways — an evaporative grid plus capillary strip — efficiently providing roots with water.

Customizable support. The heavy-duty support is integrated into the planter, to provide support wherever and whenever it's needed — and you can open, reattach and lock in the rings to gather up and support wayward branches.

Adding a Second Tomato System for Double the Yum This year!

By Cheri

Comments about : Gardener's Revolution® Honeycomb Tomato Garden:

This will be my second year with Gardner Supplies' Tomato Kits. My tomato plants last year in these planters were the most prolific and beautiful tomatoes I've ever grown! So this year I am buying new fertilizer and soil for the planter I bought last year PLUS a new second planter kit for double the yum.

Nice idea, but poor execution

Pros

Cons

  • Assembly is a hassle

Best Uses

  • Growing vining plants; corporal punishment

Comments about : Gardener's Revolution® Honeycomb Tomato Garden:

I've wanted one of these for a while and finally bought one when I saw that the clip system had been revised for easier assembly. I hate to break it to you, but it's not really an improvement. It's more a different version of the same problem. (Both clip sets were included in my box, and at one point I was so annoyed that I actually tried the old design clips just in case they weren't that bad.) Everything about this planter is a little bit Rube Goldberg-ish, but the clips in particular are overcomplicated. There's really no reason to try and force a little clip closed over two components that don't fit very well together (more on that later). If *I* can think of ways to simplify that thing, I'm pretty sure it's doable. I did manage to brute force all of them closed eventually, with a pair of pliers and some swearing. So that was one star subtracted.

The second star subtracted is because the manufacturer didn't do a very good job. The slots for the wicking strip were sealed over with plastic and I had to perform a little surgery. None of the pieces fitted together very well and required some force here and there. The wire support ends were consistently curved in a bad spot, even though they were intended to fit into straight slots on the support clip (and I don't mean the little 90 degree bend that goes in the hole, those are fine). The slot is meant to hold the wire in place, but the curve to the wire is big enough that it just pops out of the groove. You have to hold it in place to lock the clasp. That's most of the problem right there. Without the pressure of trying to hold the wire into the slot, the clasps really are easy to open and close.

The tie down doesn't stand a chance against an Oklahoma storm season, so I ignored it. That's okay, the household feline adopted it.

All that being said, now that it's assembled, it should more or less function as intended. So that's cool. I can't imagine a scenario where I would voluntarily assemble another, though.

Third Years of Use...Thrown Away!

By SpiritWolfDi

Comments about : Gardener's Revolution® Honeycomb Tomato Garden:

By the third year of use, all 4 of my planters pretty much fell apart.
The container base does NOT hold enough water in hot Virginia weather.
It does quite well in moderate or rainy weather.
Though I watered daily, the plants did not thrive. The plants withered and the small fruits cracked.
The planters are MUCH too expensive for only 3 uses!

Not a good product

Comments about : Gardener's Revolution® Honeycomb Tomato Garden:

I'm sure that I have the older model but it is not a good product. The metal rings can not stand any weight and come off easily. I had to use other supports. It looks good but will be gone from my deck soon.

Would buy as present!

By first timer

from chicago, il

Pros

  • everything is included but you choose the seed!
  • optional add-on accessories designed for planter
  • quick to get started
  • thoughtful design
  • unique, modern look

Cons

  • instructions are confusing

Best Uses

  • all-in-one kit
  • anti-critter
  • mesh bag
  • water reservoir

Comments about : Gardener's Revolution® Honeycomb Tomato Garden:

Before pulling the trigger on this planter, I thoroughly researched and researched and shopped around as this is my first time growing anything edible. I was very interested in the mesh bag aspect because all tomato websites rave about how its great for the roots and aeration of the soil (look it up). Looking into buying just a mesh bag, I thought of the potential problems with squirrels and rats climbing up and getting to my tomatoes before I had a chance to. This planter solves the problem by encasing a mesh bag in a raised plastic container (hopefully critters cant get in) that also has a water reservoir. I did not have a problem with the wire support rings like other reviewers have had and I think its a unique and visually appealing solution to an all-in-one product. Wheels were not necessary for me so thanks for the option of not purchasing them to lower the overall price. It is extremely evident that this company hired industrial designers to put thoughtful planning into this planter and it's great that soil and fertilizer came with the kit. I hope it paid off for the company. However, what fell flat with the experience is the instructions. It seems as if someone slapped it together quickly on Word as it is confusing- maybe that's why people had problems with the wire support. This is made more obvious by contrast of the incredible design of the planter. I will ABSOLUTELY purchase organic soil and fertilizer from gardeners supply next year and keep on the lookout for any other unique products.

I would give it 3 1/2 if I could?!

Comments about : Gardener's Revolution® Honeycomb Tomato Garden:

I read the reviews before I bought it. I could tell that the support things were not going to work because of all the poor reviews. When the product arrived, it did seem very complicated and flimsy (the supports only). I proceeded to plant my tomato in the planter without using the clips, just the support pole. I then just tied up the plant as it grew. It was a pain, but I liked the fact I could roll around my tomato plant as I saw fit. I was successful with my tomato plant, although it did grow smaller tomato's, which I am not sure if it's because of the tomato I grew (Margold), or if it was from the planter itself. Although I did like it for my use, I probably wouldn't recommend to others, until improvements are made.

Not enough support/supports don't work

By Lucy

from Emmaus, PA

Comments about : Gardener's Revolution® Honeycomb Tomato Garden:

Planting and setting up the planter were easy but once my early girls started growing, the supports wouldn't stay together and the whole thing has not worked. This is my second year and this year was actually worse than last year, the first year I had it. I love my raised bed but this planter did not work for me and I won't plant a tomato plant again next year.

These will go to our local freecycle...not working for me

Comments about : Gardener's Revolution® Honeycomb Tomato Garden:

Not sure why the other 32 reviews aren't being shown....but I'll add mine to the pile. These looked great in the catalog, but they haven't worked. Not too hard to assemble at the beginning if you follow the directions, but the clamps on the upright are almost impossible to get on--even with the video--without breaking them. I live in SE PA, not in AZ or somewhere else with a really dry climate--but I still had a lot of trouble keeping the pots hydrated. I'm not sure that the webbing wick really offsets the amount of aeration provided by the ventilated sides of the container.

Support lacking

By Smartcatz

from Westland, MI

Pros

  • The honeycomb pot grows a good tomato plant.

Cons

  • The support doesn't support a large tomato plant

Best Uses

Comments about : Gardener's Revolution® Honeycomb Tomato Garden:

I like the actual pot, but the support that comes with it, doesn't support the tomato plant when the plant gets larger. I had to put a stake in the ground and attach the support to it, so it wouldn't lean forward too much.
