Use it when starting seeds. It does the job and is fairly sturdy. A bit on the pricy side for what it is.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Only weekly attention needed with this seed start system
from Princeton, NJ
With the capillary mats & reservors in the seed starting system they only need your attention once a week.

I have used the Grow Ease Domes with excellent results but the white trays were breaking up so I look forward to these stronger trays for my spring planting.
Best system for starting seeds!

These trays work perfectly with the self watering trays, both sizes for 15 larger cells and the 24 cell system. Mine have lasted several years. They are easy to clean and their size makes them useful for other projects related to gardening.

I am an avid Gardener's Supply customer and have only once before in many years and through many purchases been disatisfied (and GS customer service handled everything perfectly). Until now. I bought the original set of these type of seed starter cells many years ago and they finally wore out. So, I replaced them. And my seedlings looked great and everything worked just as it should until it came time to actually plant the seedlings. The hole at the bottom of each cell is about 1/2 the size of the older version and it's absolutely impossible to get the seedlings out. I tried everything, including using a chopstick to poke the seedling out (hole is not big enough for the couple of fingers that's actually needed). Inevitably, seedling after seedling fell apart, or the roots came loose from the soil, or I had to turn the entire thing upside down to get them out and they were ruined. One word - heartbreaking. No, three words - heartbreaking, and totally preventable. I hope they redesign this product and double the size of the hole at the bottom. Until then, I'm searching for something else.

starting seeds, only bad aspect is the mat gets slimy by the time the seedlings are ready to be planted, and need to be replaced rather than washed
Handy, sturdy little trays

I use these along with wicking mats under a grow light set up, and the extras to move small pots of seedlings around.
