No water retention at all!
The entire planter is perforated. When you water , all the water goes right through and spills out onto the deck, ground etc. Makes a huge mess plus soil is eternally dry- no matter how much you water. So sorry I bought these.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

As I write, this product is out of stock, but hopefully it will come back... The containers handle water well and did excellent growing kale, tatsoi and flowers this spring. I'm trying cherry tomatoes this summer - so far great, although the lack of depth may slow things down later in the summer. I really like this solution for a few reasons: It holds excess water well. The 4 slip on wheels I bought seperately slip perfectly into the bottom corners the legs, so I can wheel this around on my deck. Sometimes in regular really hard rains, I wheel this to under my porch so the plants don't get overwatered. The top of the 4 corners can accommodate 1/2 inch pvc pipe perfectly. I made a pvc frame for tomatoes this summer that will become a small cold frame in the winter, so it will be in year round use.
nice looking compact planter

Great deck planter for growing small items. easy to move around. I will try to find casters to fit.
Just Waiting for Nice Weather
I haven't had a chance yet to use it; the weather is not ready for me. But it was easy for me to put together, and I like the way it can drain; not like the crates I had last year.
Awesome way to start your a garden!

Great buy! Easy to assemble and does not take up much space. Looking forward to planting carrots in a few weeks. The size is ideal for a classroom. Just the right size for preschoolers. they can reach the plants to water and care for them.

Good Product but came broken on 2nd orde
from Elkton, TN
I have 5 of these already and have ordered 2 more on sale. The last order came with some of the pieces broken. They were well wrapped inside shrink wrap from the manufacturer so I think the damage happened there and should not have passed inspection. But I do like these for growing on my greenhouse benches. They are deep enough for all the winter greens I would ever want to grow. Although I do not think they would be big enough to grow larger plants such as carrots, beets, tomatoes or cukes. I hope they do something to make sure the product stays basically the same but fixes the plastic to be a bit stronger and to make sure every one that gets purchased is perfect

GREAT STRAWBERRY BOXES
from Central PA
I purchased 2 in the spring to plant strawberries. After a month I added 2 more boxes. A month later I ordered 2 more. The strawberry plants are lush and full of berries. I plan on moving them to the basement after a hard frost so individual boxes just make sense.
Nice compact veggie box

I bought two of these boxes to plant my string beans on the patio. So far I really like them. The beans are growing great. The soil stays nice and moist as I bought the gardner's organic self watering containers mix. The planters have sides that have small holes in so you can also mist down the sides to give the plants more water if needed. Even though they are simple in form, from a distance they look nice since they are black and look good on my patio, keeping my beans tidy. I didn't try connecting more than one but they say you can. I am going to buy another one to try and do a tomato in it. Only thing I wish it were maybe a couple inches deeper for some of the larger veggies. So far that's my only negative.
