Your soil has to be completely saturated way beyond the surface. There can not be anything beneath the surface larger than one grain of dry rice, because it will impede the stake's progress downward, and cause the stake to bend. A large paper clip is stronger.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Really like the Earth Staples!
from NW Kansas
I purchased two sizes of the Earth Staples. This set I will be using in the vegetable garden and with my vertical free-standing rain gutter garden, to stake it to the ground.

Handy for Many Things!
I purchased the Earth Staples to use with my Gardener's Supply wire bin composter, to keep it secured to the ground. I'm sure I will find a variety of uses for them though!

Use this to make my tomato cages sturdy
from Toms River, New Jersey
Purchased this product to make my tomato cages more efficient. With these stakes they stay where I put them. Will definitely buy other stuff from this site.

These stakes work well to hold the trellis I bought.
A must if you're buying protective fencing
By Gardener Jim
from Santee, CA
Purchased this as a gift for our daughter-in-law who we also gifted with protective fencing for a garden in their new rural home. Knowing rabbits and squirrels, it seems essential to have these to secure the tough fencing, cutting off a route for these critters.
Easy to pull out even when soil is dry
By Purple Hull Holli
These are great to hold down landscaping or garden covers, such as walkway liners. Just be careful you get them all out at the end of the season, or you'll mow or till over them.
