These Self-Watering Pot Reservoirs convert your favorite pots into self-watering planters, keeping your plants from drying out and reducing the time you spend watering. Just place this self-contained adjustable reservoir in the bottom of your pot, insert the refill tube and cover with soil. The One-Gallon Conversion Kit holds four quarts and fits pots between 16" and 20" in diameter at the rim. The smaller One-Quart Conversion Kit holds one quart and fits pots up to 10-14" top diameter. Simply fill the reservoir with water through the convenient Fill Tube. The soil will be moistened through evaporative action from the reservoir below. May be used with a liquid or a water-soluble fertilizer. A vacation watering solution!

Description lacks important measurements

About Me Avid Gardener
I am really impressed with the Gardener's customer support, they deserve at least one if not two of the 4 stars I am awarding to this product! The reservoirs themselves are OK-ish, however the description lacks some important measurements. I bought the bigger version that supposedly fits a 16-20" pot. They are significantly smaller than I expected, and because of this I am not able to use them. Here is what I would have liked to know before I bought the product:1) The reservoir itself is 4.5" tall and 9.5" in diameter.2) The "petals" are 14.5" in diameter.3) The watering pipe is 12" long and has to be installed such that it touch the bottom of the reservoir. This means that your pot has to be1) At least 10" in (internal) diameter near the bottom, otherwise the reservoir won't fit.2) At most 14" in (internal) diameter 4.5" from the ground, otherwise the petals won't reach the side of the pot.3) At most 12" tall, otherwise the watering pipe won't reach the top of the soil.Again, this is for the larger version.
Merchant response: Thank you for your feedback on our Gallon Self-Watering Pot Reservoir. The diameter of the flexible petals for the gallon size is 14.5" and they bend upwards to fit narrower pots. For planters that are slightly wider, the kit can still be used. As long as the planting mix is pre-moistened before adding it to the planter, the soil will adhere to itself rather than fall through the gap between the petals and the side wall. The maximum height of the fill tube is 16.5" above the bottom of the reservoir. It can be adjusted to be shorter or cut to size. For taller planters, we recommend boosting the kit up on a small platform, like a brick, inside the planter. If you have questions about whether the kit will fit in your planter, please don't hesitate to give us a call at 1-800-876-5520.

About Me Master Gardener
I tried 3 of these and they did an excellent job of keeping oxalis plants consistently moist w/o my having to rewater through endless 90-100 degree Summer days, so I bought 2 more. I almost never rate things 5 or 1 star. They would have to be beyond belief for that.

This did not perform as promised at all. I used the largest one for my annuals and perhaps the pot is too large for the roots to grow down to the reservoir. When I dug out the plants at the end of the season they were not near the bottom where they would need to be to drink. Good German idea but flopped to perform.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

These are great to keep container plants watered when you don't have time to go around watering daily. I use them outdoors, but would work indoors as well. I like the way they adjust to fit inside the pots, so dirt doesn't drop down. I like the adjustable spout for filling with water. I find my plants still like a drink from above, as there is no wick.
