Made from the mineral remains of single-cell aquatic plants, diatomaceous earth is a super-fine dust that kills by abrading and dehydrating crawling insects. It controls slugs, ants, cockroaches, beetles, earwigs, silverfish, fleas, bedbugs, millipedes, centipedes, and other crawling insects without the use of chemicals within 24 to 48 hours of contact. Apply as a dust or a slurry. All-natural and earthworm-safe. Made from the fossilized shells of ancient sea life.

Great Sollution to staying away from chemical poisons

About Me Avid Gardener
Comments about : Diatomaceous Earth, 5 Lbs.:
With a toddler in the household and parents who don't want to use chemical poisons, this is the ideal product. It can be put into cabinets, garbage and waste containers weekly, without fear of child intrusion. The bag has all manner of insects it is capable of deterring. It describes method of application even in wet or areas where wind might minimize effectiveness. Found out that swimming pool use of diatoms is not applicable to homes and gardens which i did not know before.

Always a favorit inside and out
from swamp maple haven, NJ
It's not unusual to have creepy crawlers lurking around. Getting rid of ants is a continuing problem. This product can be used on window sills, and surfaces where they are known to track. When working on the walls of a house put some inside the walls, so if there are any unwelcome invaders they will soon be gone with no insecticides. Great product

Works GREAT for Tomato Worms
from Orangevale, CA
It is much easier to use this if you mix with water (the ratios were included on the product I bought) and then just put in sprayer. Be careful not to use too much -- for excessive amounts can prevent sun and nutrients from getting to the leaves. And, of course, make sure you are using the food grade product. Sure is nice to control those big, scary, all-the-sudden-there's-one tomato worms!

This product is very effective on ants but very messy on my walks and driveway. Maybe if it were a brown color to blend in instead of stark white, it wouldn't look so bad. Also, if it could be in an easy to apply container.

Great for houseplants
By Joanna Banana
The Pennsylvania Horticulture Society recommended this to get rid of gnats that were making a home in our houseplants this past winter. It is an all natural product that I believe is used in organic gardens. You don't want to breath it in though, so apply when there is no breeze or wear a dust mask. I recommend getting a fine grate shaker with a lid or making one out of a coffee can. It works by shredding the bugs exoskeletons, or in my case the gnat larvae that were breeding in my houseplants. I applied this once in January and have not had any more bugs on my houseplants despite watering. It seems to last every watering since. Gardener's Supply price is a little expensive.
