If you're not diligent about replenishing bark mulch, it can start to look messy and start letting weeds through after just one season. These thick mulch mats are made of tightly woven coconut fibers and durable natural latex, so they stop weeds for several seasons. They reduce string-trimming chores too, because you can mow right over them.

Color not accurate to photos
from New jersey
In the photo the mat looks close to a natural cedar brown color. When we received it, the color was bright red. It doesn't look as natural as I would like, but it does look tough and durable.

Help the tree and make mowing easier!
By Grandma Gardener

These coco fiber rings really work! They look natural, but are so much more efficient than loose mulch, and easy to move if necessary. I use them to protect, not just trees, but other new plantings such as coral yucca. They are truly a help when I am weeding.

The product is excellent but unfortunately I have a ferocious weed that breaks through everything. However this allows me to keep that weed under control much easier than the plastic-type sheets I have laid down. They only help a small bit.

Great look but has limitations
I like this item and it serves it's intended purpose well. However, it claims that you can run your mower over the edge with no problem. This may be true if you set your cutting deck higher or if you don't have a mulching blade on your mower. I went over one edge and my mulching blade chewed it up a bit.

Around trees on a sloping hillside that faces a major street, lots of runners and bicycles as well as cars, so important to look nice

Easy solution for tree bordering
By Jan in DC
from Washington DC
I use these to create a defined border around six Dogwood trees in my yard. They are very easy to apply and fit readily around the small diameter dogwood trunks. The rings provide a clean look and effectively keep weeds and underbrush away.
Put them around our new tree planting and then add water jacks....works wonderful...have bought several different sizes
I purchased two of the rings and am satisfied with the appearance as well as the construction. Easy to install.
I love these!

I use these around all my shrubs instead of mulch. They keep the grass away and are easy to maintain. They are admittedly a terrible red color but they fade in the sun. My neighbor puts a small amount of mulch on top of his to hide the color. I put a ring of rocks around mine. My dogs eat mulch so this works great!
