Sized to fit neatly atop our 2' x 8' Elevated Cedar Raised Bed, this attractive cold frame may also be used on the ground to start seeds, harden off transplants, and grow greens and other cool-season crops. The narrow footprint makes it ideal for setting up along your driveway or walkway, or install it next to your house. The base is made from rot-resistant cedar with aluminum corners. The top is made with polycarbonate panels that diffuse light so plants don't "cook," and there are adjustable braces to hold panels at various intervals for ventilation.

Intimidated at first
from Durham, NC
I was intimidated by the size of the two boxes when they arrived but I ended up being surprised at how easy it was for me to assemble this cold frame. I did it by myself with a screwdriver and hammer. It's well designed and uses good-quality materials. I made the assembly task a bit harder by adding hardware cloth on the bottom to help deter voles. If pre-cut hardware cloth could be included to line the bottom I'd give this another star :-) I also added landscaping cloth to deter the nearby Bermuda grass from creeping in --time will tell if that was a good idea. If the front edge was deeper you could have taller plants in front. I adjusted by digging down the front edge and now am growing arugula and lettuce along the front.

Love this cold frame!
from Asheville, NC
I like the length and that it's made of cedar. The top seems durable. Time will tell how it holds up in the sun. Optimally it would be taller in the front.

Great addition to our vegetable patch
By Johnny Test
This looks like a great way for us to start the tomatoes earlier in the Spring. The lid can be raised just enough to allow air flow to help the seedlings grow strong stems.
easy to assemble and use

Needs better seal around doors and between the two doors to hold heat in at night. I lost a couple of plants that were under the joint between the doors one cold night

needed in the north east
from upstate NY
This is ideal for the cold windy springs we have. I start my carrots, lettuce. spinich, parcely and direct sow tomato seeds. My husband made me one and he really couldn't do it cheaper. I plan on ordering another.the only improvement would be if the covers could be latched in the open vent position to prevent the wind from blowing them open.

I would buy it again. Although it is minor shortcoming, the wind could blow the lid open. I was able to easily make a little gadget that prevents that.
