The Cape Cod Firestarter is a piece of Yankee ingenuity from the days when wood fires were a necessity. Simply fill the cast iron pot half way with Lamp Oil, (sold separately), and let the soapstone soak. When lit, it will burn for about ten minutes — plenty of time for the fire to get going without kindling or newspaper. Works the first time, every time. Great for charcoal cooking, too.

Amazing convenience. Just keep this little pot close to your fireplace and it works every time. We have it by each of our fireplaces and we have now given it as a gift! So I am a repeat purchaser.

About Me Midrange Shopper
This item saves a lot of time building a fire with newspaper and kindling to get it going. You don't need all that prep with the fire starter because it burns strongly for a good 5 minutes - enough to get your larger logs going. Makes it super easy to start a fire. Its easy to use and looks attractive siting on the hearth.

I use the product all the time to start fires in my wood stove. Works well and I don't need to use scraps of wood or paper to help.
Light your fire

Save money, don't buy those special wax filled fire starters, just fill up the canister, and get ready for your fire to start. Use it over and over again with lamp oil or kerosene.

Outstanding hard to find product!
Finally found what I've been looking for! This product works great for starting our fires in the fireplace as well as the fire pit in the backyard. I use lamp oil rather than kerosene and it stays lit between 5 - 10 minutes. Plenty of time to ignite a 2-3" piece of wood. Don't need messy paper, leaves or small kindling anymore!

Fireplace/woodstove fire starter

Instructions say to use kerosene which I have and it works great at less cost. It starts wood in the 2 inch range with no problem. Nothing else needed. The only draw back I've found is the lack of a place to put the hot rod & rock to cool before putting it back into the flamable liquid.

I have been looking all over for one of these! I needed to replace a worn out one from years ago. Finally found it and just what I needed. I will be ordering another for a friend. This is the only place on the net I have found one of these.
Cape Cod Fire Starter
We searched several companies for this particular style fire starter. No one else we searched still carried this item. It works great. One thing is for sure kindling is required as it is not a large enou long burning ball to light a full length fireplace or Woodstock log. For us the handle could be a little longer as we are using it in our older model wood stove. I would recommend it to anyone who has a fireplace or wood stove.
Low Stone Porosity

About Me High-end Shopper
I have an old cape cod lighter that I was looking to replace when the container started to leak. This stone isn't porous enough, and thus doesn't soak up enough oil. It's hard to light and keep lit, and it doesn't stay lit long enough to get the fire going.I'm going to use my old stone, but it's hardly worth the price just for a vessel that doesn't leak.

My son loves it. Uses it for his mountain wood burning stove. My husband still uses paper..what a mess. I love the idea of not having to save and have to use crumpled papers.
