Butterflies gather around mud puddles to get the minerals they need. This hand-painted ceramic Butterfly Puddling Stone is a beautiful way to create your own puddling station. Place it in a sunny location among your flowers where butterflies can sunbathe. Fill the well with sand, mix in a pinch of salt, and pour water over it until a puddle forms on the surface. As the water evaporates, it leaves behind valuable salts and minerals that butterflies need. Once butterflies know where to find these minerals, they'll return regularly. Placing pieces of overripe fruit on the stone is another way to attract butterflies.

Comments about : Butterfly Puddling Stone:
The puddle is way too small. On a hot, sunny day the puddle dries out in a very short time.Heavy rains will wash all sand from from the puddle. The title says it all, the puddling stone is useless
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I had expected the puddle stone to be a bit larger, but nonetheless, it makes a very pretty addition to the area by my bird bath. A unique accent whether butterflies use it or not. I like it!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this for an avid gardener as a gift. The recipient loved. It is well made, durable. It is used outside with sand, salt, and a little water. The inside blue well for the sand, salt, and water is beautiful. It is worth the reasonable price and makes a lovely gift for oneself, family, and/or friends. I intend to keep this on my list of possible gifts for friends.

It is pretty. So far I have not seen any butterflies at it, even though I have seen many butterflies in flowers near to where this is located. I am gad it was a good price (less than 2 other companies).

cute...but no takers
from Mentor Ohio
the directions say to keep in sun...the little 'pool' dries out faster then I can keep it moist...thus not meeting the needs of the butterflies.
Nice addition to the garden. Have it placed next to many butterfly perennials, but I'm not sure it really does much. Have seen many butterflies on the flowers but none on the stone.
As of today, no I wouldn't buy this product again.

My one star rating may not be at all fair considering that butterflies have been very scarce in and around our Ohio garden this year. The puddle stone hasn't had one single visitor but looks very nice in the patio garden area. Hopefully activity will increase as we go further into July.
So cute in my butterfly garden!

I love the idea of having everything butterflies need in one place. I just planted my butterfly garden this summer and was thrilled to find this puddling stone to go in it. Love it!

I purchased this for my butterfly garden and it looks so cute nestled amongst the flowers. I haven't seen any butterflies on it yet. I keep putting mixture of soil, sand, salt and water in it, and the rabbits and squirrels keep eating it up.Would love to know if anyone has any other recipe to mix and put out.

This is perfect for teaching children about butterflies

I teach gardening to a group of inner city children. The puddling stone is an attractive addition to our butterfly garden. I look forward to having the children discover its usefulness as the garden progresses.
