Aqua Pebbles are made from clay that's been fired at high temperatures, creating a porous material that holds water and then releases it slowly as plants need it. Commonly used in hydroponics and terrariums and as a potting medium for orchids, the clay balls are also ideal in container plantings. Place a layer of Aqua Pebbles at the bottom of a planter, then fill the rest with soil mix. The pebbles absorb and retain water, while also creating pockets of air space. Roots grow down into the pebble layer, where they have access to both the water and the oxygen they need. Our exclusive blend includes pebbles in a variety of sizes to create the optimum amount of air space. They may also be used as decorative surface mulch. 5-quart bag.

Comments about Aqua Pebbles:
I forget which pots I put them in, and can't tell which are which. Maybe they're helping. Maybe they're not.

About Me Avid Gardener
I put these in the bottom of all my outside planters this year. It cut my watering time in half. Please get them back. I need them for my winter planters and pots in the house.

I added the aqua pebbles to several planters on our deck. They are light weight and easy to use. The plants with the aqua pebbles look stronger and healthier than those with rocks or clay pot chards in the bottom. I like the fact the pebbles can be sterilized and reused. I'll definitely order more next year.

I use the pebbles to insure more moisture to the roots of my potted plants. I like the idea that they can be reused next year after a thorough cleaning.

About Me Master Gardener
I bought 20 bags to use as a grow medium in my aquaponics garden. Last year I used pea gravel but Aqua Pebbles is a far superior product. In reference to a previous post; Aqua Pebbles are not meant to be sponges that soak up water. They retain moisture. This can be tested by putting some in a flat dish and cover with water. Next add double the amount on the top. In a short while the pebbles on top will also be wet but your water level barely changes.

Only use to lighten pot.

Absorbs very little water. I weighed a quart of these before and after soaking for hours in water and was shocked at how little was retained. Fine for breaking up / aerating the soil and lightening up a large pot, but you'll have to water more fequently.

These are wonderful
from Huntersville, NC
These are great for aerating pots and planters, or using as 'gravel' around the outer base of a pot. There is a plentiful amount in the box for many plants and they are reusable.

Everything was as advertised and they work effectively. My only complaint would be that the bag is hard to seal.
