No flower is easier to grow than amaryllis, and brilliant ‘Red Lion’ is an especially striking variety. This one couldn’t be simpler to set up — no potting mix needed. Just set the bulb in place so the bottom sits above the water line. Includes 2 pounds of smooth glass pebbles to place in vase to add weight for stability.

Comments about Amaryllis in Glass Vase:
I started the bulb as soon as I got it and it started growing pretty quickly. The bulb was very large and healthy and has two flower buds. LOVED the big heavy vase which could be used to force other large bulbs or even as a flower vase. The bulb has not grown tall enough yet to rate how well the clear stones will keep the vase from tipping. Additional clear or even colored pellets could be added. I tied a big bow around the neck to hide the roots. A finishing touch.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I had not thought of growing an amaryllis like this, though I should have, as I do this with other bulbs. I like the idea you can see the roots in the water, with the glass marbles in the bottom for weight. I guess you could put different colored marbles in the bottom, or even pretty stones. Mine is starting to bud, now. It is strong and healthy. I will probably put another amaryllis bulb in this when the current one is spent and planted in the garden.

Amaryllis in Glass Vase
from North Carolina
No matter how little water I put in the vase, the amaryllis roots rotted; I lost about 3/4 of them. I changed the water every couple days, but mold continued to grow on the roots. Glass "beads" appeared to be broken glass pieces, and were sharp. I love the idea of this, as well as the shape of the vase. Will try it with other bulbs, as well as use for cut flowers.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
My amaryllis is healthy
from Jenen Beach, FL
Tho unique healthy bulb. Crushed glass for stabilizing so sharp cut finger. rounded glass much better. would not recommend until glass fixed.
Merchant response: Thank you to the reviewers who raised concern about the amaryllis. We take issues of safety seriously. Based on your feedback, we’ve changed the type of material in the vase. The kit now comes with smooth glass pebbles.

concerned about moldy roots in house
By mom of asthmatic
Beautiful flower, but visible moldy roots detract from view, may be health concern to some. Recommend planting in soil instead.
The bulb and roots got fuzzy after a week eventho I followed directions.
