Fermentation 101

In this workshop we will discuss the basics of lacto-fermentation, the science behind how it works, the health benefits and how you can do it yourself. The first part of the session will be discussion based, followed by getting our hands dirty making mixed vegetable ferments. Everyone should come to class with a cutting board, sharp knife and expect to leave with a jar or two of their ferment, class handouts and fermentation fervor! The workshop fee includes, the workshop, the materials for your creation, a bottle of Switchback beer and dinner from a locally sourced, make-your-own burrito bar. 100% of the profits will be donated non-profit. Kokedama originating in Japan, is a ball of soil covered with moss on which an ornamental plant grows. Learn how to make a kokedama using beautiful plants from our conservatory and take home the finished product at the end of class. Bring life to your to table, mantel or windowsill with a succulent centerpiece. You will learn basic succulent care and see a demonstration on creating a succulent centerpiece. Then you will get to create a centerpiece to take home with you! Join us in our greenhouse to create a rustic woodland wreath. Nina Foster of Trillium Finch will guiede you thorugth the process of creating a unique wreath for your home. Woodland wreaths are comprised of natural elements foraged from nature along with the addition of some moss, feathers and other fun pieces. Spend an evening with us creating tillandsia (air plant) ornaments. you will be inspired to create ornaments using tillandsais, cork, grapevine, found objects, moss and decorative wire.
