Description

  • 15" deep to accommodate large, deep-rooted plants
  • Raised beds produce higher yields and are easier to tend than in-ground beds
  • Choice of sizes to suit any garden or landscape
  • Watch: How to Build Cedar Raised Beds

Ideal for deep-rooted plants, such as tomatoes and blueberry bushes, these 15" deep beds also create attractive focal points in the garden. Each bed includes four industrial-strength aluminum corners, 1" rot-resistant cedar lumber that's been precut to the proper lengths, hardware and instructions. Easy assembly — just slip the boards into the corners and screw them in place. (12' long beds use two 6' boards with in-line connectors.) Raised beds are easy to set up, plant and maintain, producing high yields in a compact space with less digging and weeding. Use Deep Root Cedar Raised Beds to grow vegetables, or install the beds along a perimeter to create stunning border gardens. Made by us in Vermont.

I got this for my daughter who has red clay soil in Georgia. As it is very hard to emend the soil, it seemed the best solution to add good soil, peat moss, and compost on top of the clay. It has only been a few weeks, but the seeds sprouted and veggie seedlings seem to be doing fine. I finished it with the oil I purchased. 1 coat used up the whole can. I hope the wood lasts over time.

For the price of the raised beds I was very disappointed when 1 - all the parts weren't there. Had to run to hardware store to buy more screws. Also boards were put together upside and backwards. We had to take them apart and put them together the right way.

This is the third raised bed I haved added to a small yard in a typical housing development. I like this one best. I bought the 4'X4'x15" one. Mine are placed on the side of the house that gets full sun all afternoon. I used FedEx for delivery and got two day delivery that was free with the purchase. Easy to unpack. Had time to apply two coats of Cedar Garden Bed Oil before assembling it. Don't skip this step! The oil goes on easily with a soft cloth and smells wonderful.
Be sure to wear leather garden gloves as you get some splinters from rubbing the rough side of the cedar. The oil comes from a separate location so allow time for it to be delivered...4 days from the time I placed the order.
My daughter-in-law drilled a small hole before putting in each screw with a handheld screw driver. Boards are perfectly cut for easy fit. It took about 30 minutes to assemble. Once we set it where we wanted it, we placed about 8 layers of newspaper across the bottom on the ground inside the bed, wet the newspaper down, and then added 15 40 pound bags of top soil and two bags of mushroom compost to fill it. I'll begin adding plants after it settles for another day or two.I'm sure it will be used for years to come.

What a great product. I put it together in less than 20 minutes with the help of an extra set of hands. Liked it so much I ordered another one right away. My gardens has become the focal point of my yard in a matter of weeks. I've already added an herb garden and have plans for a butterfly garden also. You might have created a monster. LOL.

I purchased several cedar raised beds to relocate my vegetable garden in a hurry. I then needed to stage new bushes temporarily and used one of these beds. They are super easy to assemble, but need a little extra work to level. Check the screw count before you start. Some packages were short while others had extras.

Had two "boxes" ordered and the assembly of both for which side was to be on the outside was different. Called 800# and got helpful rep but he didn't know there was suppose to be a difference either. Change 4x8 box to rough side out a secondary instruction paper stated.
Garden works great and looks good

I ordered the cedar deep root raised beds in 4x4 (2) as well as 4x8 size, and was delighted to get free shipping on them. They arrived well packed and in good order, with a little crushing on a couple of metal corners, but nothing that impeded construction. I am sure I could have assembled them myself, but since my two garden guys were here to deliver the dirt to fill the beds, I had them do it. With two guys and a screw gun, each bed went together in 5-10 minutes. I had already applied the weatherproofing compound Gardener's Supply sells, which turns the boards a lovely silvery grey, and all in all, they are gorgeous, with sturdy corners and great planting depth. I don't know how well they will hold up here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast; so far they look great, but around here, whatever can rot, does, and pretty fast. Since my yard is generally not well drained, I put in a gravel pad about 4 inches deep, contained by 4x4s, to set the beds up on, so they are sitting above the wet soil level. If we get a drought, this will take a lot of water to maintain, but in the torrential rains we have had this spring, it has worked wonderfully to provide drainage. I will probably add more gravel space and more beds over time; right now, whoever comes into the yard to see them says, "wow!"

                                How-To

                                • No time for a traditional, in-ground vegetable garden? A raised bed is a shortcut to a plentiful harvest, even in the first year.
                                • Use the Soil Calculator to determine how much soil you need to fill your raised bed.
                                • Learn how to plan, plant and tend your own super-productive, raised-bed vegetable garden.
                                • Looking for instructions on growing certain vegetables? You'll find answers in the Vegetable Encyclopedia.
                                • Gardener's Supply Company does business with hundreds of suppliers in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. But our largest and most important supplier is right here in Vermont.
                                • Dreaming of a backyard berry patch? An asparagus bed? Start with a raised bed. A raised bed isolates the perennial crop from invasive weeds and grasses that might creep into the growing area. All have shallow roots that don't compete well with weeds and that can be damaged by aggressive weeding tools.
